HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Let’s hope it’s a good one.
An update on the recent matches played on Friday and Saturday:
The Mason Trophy was played on Friday morning, one rink at home and one away to Malvern. At home, it was a very exciting game which ended in a draw. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the same away where we lost by 12 shots.
It was a similar story on Saturday for our men, who were all playing in the area final of the Denny Cup on a neutral green at Daventry IBC against Huntingdon. Two rinks won, and two lost, resulting in an overall loss by 11 shots.
So we’ll both have to start all over again later this year. Looking forward to it.
However, on Saturday afternoon, MidGlos was playing away at and against Malvern. MidGlos won 107/79.
Cath Black reports:
Our highest winning rink (Kim May, Stan Lister and John Cox) had a cracking game, winning 29/8.
Shot of the day, however, must go to John Black. Last end they were down 16/12…. Malvern were holding 2, and John came in with his last wood of the game…hit the jack sweet so knocking both shots out of play, scoring 6 shots to win the game!!! Brilliant play. Well done, John.
The next friendly is this Wednesday, the 7th, against GIBC. 2.00 p.m. start.
Successes to shout about:
Finlay Williamson is (as I’ve mentioned before) playing in the Pairs in World Bowls at Potters this Friday at 3.45, 9th January, 2026. This match will be broadcast on YouTube and, provided we can get it on our temperamental device, it will be on at the club!🤞
Jack Pullin, one of our members, was at the Para England International trials on 21st December at Solihull IBC.
If successful, the Para Home Nations International Series runs from 27th February 2026 until 1st March 2026 at Solihull IBC.
I’m pleased to announce that two of our members, Louie Hodges and Dylan Williamson, with Josh Hodges as a non-travelling reserve, have been selected to play in the Mixed U18s International Series Team, which runs from 9th January 2026 until 11th January 2026 at Cumbernauld IBC in Scotland.
Dylan is the captain of the team and is playing 3 in the Fours, while Louie is playing lead and Dylan skip in the Pairs.
Louie is also playing in the Singles.
Wow, what an accomplishment for all three and an honour for MidGlos!
They are all very talented players and deserve every success.
We are so proud of all of you. Keep it up. We’re rooting for you!
A reminder that Bingo is this Sunday, 11th January 3.00 to 5.00 p.m. and tickets are on sale for fun bowls and a meal on Burns Night on Sunday, 25th January 2026.
I hope I’ve remembered everything.
Take care everyone,
Linda.
