Hello again – one day late! There is a reason – we didn’t get back from Torquay until midday(ish). It was a great week-end and I think we all got to know each other better. No revelations! I promised that went on in Torquay stayed in Torquay! However, we did have a group photo taken this morning.

Going back to last Thursday evening and our Presentation Evening and 25th Anniversary celebration, there are lots more photos. Kath kindly took the photos of the winning leagues and has displayed them at the club. The different competition winners are shown below:

Well done to everyone and thank you to all who entered and to Roger and Gill Fry for the organisation –

… never easy but complicated further this year because of the clash of timings with the National Finals and the success and therefore involvement of our younger members.

Kath also took the photos of our Anniversary cakes kindly made by Chris Frusher.

Howard gave a short presentation of a brief history of our club on our present site. All in all, it was a very enjoyable evening with a buffet laid on by Tricia Bluck ably assisted by several other people. Thank you.

An update on the woods donated to the club by Rich Eeles – it appears that an away player borrowed them. A number of players have informed Dave Giles that the bowls did not reappear after the game. Sadly, nobody has admitted their mistake. We are looking into their whereabouts but it could be that we never see them again. How sad!!

A markers course took place on Saturday and proved to be a great success. The team of Martin Johnson, Ed Poole and Jamie Campbell (all senior umpires) presented a brilliant course which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.

The following MidGlos members are now officially Accredited EBUA Markers following the successful completion of the EBUA Markers’ Course:

  • Layla Avaron
  • Trevor Bartlett
  • Annette Day
  • Tony Letts
  • Beverley Sayers and
  • Graham Simmons

Very well done!

The start of our summer season was heralded by a trial new format for our Monday morning league. Surprisingly it didn’t cause too much confusion and I think the general feeling was that it was a nice change to have something different. Those teams who had lost the first set came back fighting to win the second and some did indeed do just that.

Once again, another reminder of the AGM this Wednesday evening at 7.00p.m. prompt. The bar will be open so please arrive in time to buy your drink first. It is a members’ club so it is your chance to have your say and, hopefully more people will step up to ease the burden on those who put a lot into the smooth running of the club.

A skip has been ordered for the week-end of 26th and 27th April. There is a sheet up for you to sign offering your help. We have a fair bit of “stuff” to get rid of so we need some help please, starting at 10.00a.m. each day.

Our monthly quiz is this Saturday and judging by the teams signed up, it will be rather busy again.

While in Torquay, Sue Bolton and Kath Hofmann committed to the challenge of losing 20 kilograms in six months. I don’t know if it’s 20kg. each or between them. A sponsorship sheet will be up at the club soon. All proceeds are to go to the club. Please help them achieve their goal.

And finally, the solution to last week’s “guess who?”:

Fred Croxton

This month’s quizmaster and our carpet cleaner – Fred Croxton. I’ll leave it to him to explain the reason for the “get up”!

That’s it for now.

Take care and have a very Happy Easter.
