What a weekend! I’m shattered – I was bowling Friday evening, Saturday morning and twice today! I’ve just gotten back, and now I’m writing this.
First of all, my apologies to Finley, Dylan and Jack who also played and won last Sunday in Nottingham and Hattie who was the reserve. I had forgotten that it was a double rink.
Not only did they win both the semifinal and the final, but they also did it in fewer ends than the 18 available. Excellent! And here’s the proof.

Congratulations to Josh, Finley, Erin, Jack, Louie and Dylan … with Hattie as the travelling reserve.
Last Wednesday, the Tony Allcock match, ladies versus men took place. I have to report through gritted teeth that the men won. Well done. They’ll receive their plate on the Presentation Evening.
The roll call of this winter’s league winners is as follows:
Monday morning triples | Hayles Angels |
Monday afternoon triples | Richmonds |
Monday evening fours | Talking Heads |
Tuesday morning triples | In Laws |
Tuesday afternoon triples | Yobs |
Tuesday evening fours | Spartans |
Tuesday evening pairs | The Late Late Show |
Wednesday morning fours | Nomads |
Wednesday morning Australian Pairs | Blackmays |
Thursday morning triples | In Laws |
Thursday evening fours | Wings |
Friday afternoon triples | Bulldozers |
Well done to all concerned!
The club competition finals have been taking place since last Wednesday evening and, as you will see from the photo below, there are still a couple to be played tomorrow (Monday) evening.

Over the few days, there has been some impressive bowling. I’m sure those of you who did come along to support will agree. The winners will be presented on Thursday evening 10th April when there will be a free buffet, the bar will be open and a short presentation to celebrate 25 years on our present site.
The reason that the finals have had to be played over a few days is because of the success of our young bowlers who are and have been involved in the National Finals in Nottingham. When I have the results, I will post them here.
Next week-end 35+ of us are off to bowl in Torquay against local clubs there. We are hoping that this beautiful weather holds.
A reminder again that our AGM will be held on the following Wednesday evening 16th April. Please do try to attend.
The next quiz is on 19th April which is Easter Saturday. For that reason, Howard and I won’t be able to attend since the family will be with us. Fred Croxton and Harold Grouse are your quizmasters. I hope it’s another enjoyable evening. Before I finish, here’s a little “guess who”. Answer next week.

Hopefully we’ll see most of you over the next couple of weeks but, for those of you going outside to play, I wish you a good season and look forward to welcoming you back in September.
Take care everyone,
Linda.
