Hello,
Quarter of a year gone already! The last week of our winter season! Much as I like the sunshine and warmer days (not to mention the lighter nights – hope your clocks leapt forward an hour) I hate this time in the club because it means that we have to say “good bye” to many of my friends for a few months while they (you) go outside to bowl in the cold and rain.
However, we are open every morning and Friday evening in the summer if you fancy popping in for a roll up and or a coffee. You’d be very welcome. Talking about Friday evening, our umbrella is very popular. Not only do we pay our rink fees but we contribute to a pot (held by Neil Pashley who had the original idea) so that, every so often we have a celebration of maybe savouries, cakes, pie and chips and a drink of your choice. This time we had fish and chips ordered and collected by Neil. A really good way to celebrate almost the end of the season!

Let’s hope we don’t have a repeat of last Monday morning’s blackout. Fortunately it didn’t last for long. Just as Steve Bluck was about to announce that each game would have to be recorded as a draw, the lights came back on! I’ve since been told that it affected the whole of Gloucester.
One our young disabled members has been recently having coaching from a number of our coaches in the hope that he’d be accepted into the England Disabled Team. I’m delighted to be able to announce that Ross Bolland has achieved his goal. Well done Ross and well done to the coaches.
The men’s and ladies’ team sheets are now up on the board for the Tony Allcock match this Wednesday at 2.00p.m. Please check and tick your name. The bar will be open so, if you’re not playing, why not come along to support and have a drink at the same time?
The EIBA National Finals are taking place at Nottingham IBC for the next couple of weeks. For the first time in the club’s history, Nottingham won the Denny Cup yesterday. No doubt having Simon Skelton and Les Gillett in the team contributed to their success. It’s good to know that MidGlos lost to the overall winners. Well done again to our men’s team.
I was hoping to hear the results of today’s U18 mixed Trips semifinal before writing this. Erin Burke, Louie and Josh Hodges were playing this morning and, if they won, they would go on to play the final. More news on that next week. Several more of our youngsters will be playing in different matches in the coming days. We wish them every success. It’s a real achievement to have reached the finals and a feather in the cap for MidGlos!
You will have received your AGM papers this week. Please read them (a lot of work goes into the preparation) and please try to attend on the night.
We have our club finals coming up this week-end. If you’re not playing, please come along to support and then the following week, on 10th April it is the Presentation Evening as well a small celebration of our 25 years on the present site. There will be the usual buffet and the bar will, of course, be open.
As usual, I hope I’ve remembered everything.
Until next week, take care,
Linda.
