Hello again,
The weather today’s not very cheery but it has been spring-like this week. I even saw my first three lambs this year on Wednesday in a field in Northleach and a lot more in Withington this morning. Living where we do, we see lots of deer all through the year but they seem to like the sunny weather (as I do) and it brings them out into the open in a couple of fields near us. It’s such a beautiful sight. They’re so pretty. I know farmers are not as taken with them as I am because, like badgers, they carry tuberculosis.
As I said last week, we left before the match between MidGlos and the disabled team finished. However, I have since heard that the disabled team went on to win.
This year we have gained a healthy number of new members but sadly we have lost pretty much the same number due to death, illness or infirmity. Our goal is to increase the membership. This is down to every one of us. Please spread the word.
Encourage friends and neighbours to come and “have a go”. It doesn’t have to be formal with a coach but you act as a buddy, get them kitted out with shoes and woods from the bowls cupboard (please leave it as you found it) and show them the ropes. This is at no cost to you or your friend/neighbour. If they take to it, of course, coaching is available.
At the beginning of the season, the club purchased a number of sample shirts. This is so that people wishing to buy a club shirt can try them on in order to ascertain the correct size. Three of these samples are missing. If you have one at home, in your bag, in your locker, in the boot of your car or anywhere else, please return it to reception. Have a good hunt, please.
On Thursday, 3rd April, in the evening, we have no league games. We would like to open the evening up for members to play re-arranged games and for anyone with outstanding competitions to play. Please get in touch with reception at your earliest convenience to secure a rink.
In the coming summer season, there will be spare rinks on the mornings of:
- Monday (2)
- Wednesday (4)
- Thursday (2)
These spare rinks are available for practice, friendly games with other members or times when you could bring along a friend to introduce them to our excellent facility. Just phone up to book a rink.
Next Sunday, 30th March, some of our youngsters are competing in the U18s Trips semifinal in Nottingham.
There are two rinks:
Erin Burke, Louie Hodges and Finlay Williamson
and
Jack Speller, Dylan Williamson and Josh Hodges.
Should they win, they will go on to play the final.
They’ve done incredibly well to reach this far and we wish them the best of luck!
As I’ve said many times before, we are so proud of our youngsters. They are the future of this club and our sport. Try to encourage your friends to come and have a go. As you know, it’s really not as easy as it looks and they might just enjoy the challenge as you obviously do. Bowling is like every other sport, the earlier you start, the better you become.
If I pick out just two big names, Wayne Willgress and Katherine Rednall, they both started at an early age. Beginning young certainly pays off.
I definitely wish I’d found bowls sooner.
Take care everyone and let’s hope the sunshine returns.
Linda.
