Hello everyone,
Having spent most of the week-end filling my garden pots, I got very excited when it clouded over and big spots of rain fell. But, after a few minutes, that was it – definitely not enough to make any difference to the parched ground!
Traditionally, the numbers for the Friday night umbrella fall drastically in the summer but, I have to say that, so far that is not the case this season. Our numbers are still healthy – nothing to do with the fact that we stay for an alcoholic beverage and chat afterwards and the week after next we’re having pizza too (we all contribute each week to a fund kept and guarded with his life by Neil Pashley). Thanks must go to Dave Owen and Ian (Noddy) Holder for the organisation each week.
While on the subject of Noddy, he intends to put up a reserve sheet for Torquay next year should anyone drop out. This has proved to be a very popular event (and not too far to travel). Howard and I went for the first time this year and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our names are down for next year as well as almost everyone else who went this year. At the moment it is full but there’s a long time to go until March next year. Anything can happen so, if you’d like to give it a go, put your name down on the list on a first come first served basis.
The first of the restarted Australian Pairs league begins this Wednesday. Thanks must go to Geoff Underhill whose “baby” it was in the winter. A continuation into the summer wasn’t exactly a smooth passage. However, we are hopefully back on track with Geoff running all six teams – by no means an easy task. Here’s to a successful league if not a little belated.
Our next monthly quiz is this Saturday. Sadly, Tricia Bluck who usually takes charge of the food had an argument with a table this morning – the table won – Tricia has two broken bones in her foot. Therefore a few of us have “stepped in” (excuse the pun) to help out. Bear with us, we’ll do our best.
My apologies for ending on a sad note but I have to announce the death of a former member, Doug Rose. I must confess that I didn’t know him but our condolences to his family and friends.
Until next week, take care.
Linda.Linda Watkin-Jones.
