Newsletter Issue 229

Hello again,

First of all please note that the club will be open on two consecutive Wednesday evenings from 6.00 p.m.:

25th February and

5th March

This is for any outstanding league games and club competitions to be played. Book a rink with reception.

Steve Bluck has asked me to inform you that the end of this month is the deadline for team entries for the 2025 summer league.

The LADIES’ SECTION MEETING is to be held on Tuesday, 4th March at 12.45p.m. This is an important meeting which is held each year to decide on the competitions which we should enter next year. These competitions are not a closed book. If you wish to be considered, look out for the notices on the ladies’ competition board and put your name down. We are always looking for “new blood”.

Dave Giles has organised with EBUA to hold a Markers’ Course on Saturday, 12th April 2025 between 9.30a.m. and 5.00p.m.

In order for it to run, we need to fill the course up to 21 participants.

The course will enable members to learn the Laws of the Sport, discover more about practical marking skills and practise a range of exercises on the green.

Places on the course are limited and interested members should book a place asap. We are having first choice before it is opened up to outdoor clubs when places could be filled up soon.

Tea/coffee and cakes/biscuits will be available but you will need to provide your own lunch.

The men’s Saturday Interclub was played on Saturday between MidGlos and Cheltenham Spa and Barnwood and Cheltenham Town (Suffolk Square). The results were close on all the rinks but MidGlos came out on top scoring 34 shots against 28. Barnwood beat Cheltenham in two close games but I haven’t been informed of the actual score.

The result for MidGlos against Cotswold in the friendly at home last week wasn’t good news again. Never mind, we can’t win them all. It’s all experience. I’m afraid our Wessex B team had a tough time against Carterton last Sunday. Carterton are a very good team – it was never going to be easy against them.

Next Sunday, 23rd February, the A team is playing Cotswold A.

More fantastic news from our youngsters!

Our very own Fin Williamson has been awarded Player of the Series for England in the U25 series!

The rink in which he played won all three games and was Top Rink of the series.

In the image below, the guy third from the left, Tom Holmes, is playing in the Trips game at our club on 25th February. He now plays for Solihull; formerly Malvern and formerly MidGlos. As I said last week – it will be a great game to watch!

The second round of Keezen was played on Friday evening. It was well supported and enjoyed by all the participants. The next one will be in a month’s time. A notice will go up in plenty of time.

Our next quiz is this coming Saturday, 22nd February when the quizmaster will be Tony Letts.

As I said in my last newsletter, I’m away for a few days so there won’t be a newsletter next week.

Until the next time, take care,

Linda.
