Newsletter Issue 160

Hello everyone,

Just one week to go to the winter season! It starts on Monday, 18th September and all of the winter league schedules are now up on the website.

The samples of the new club shirt are now at the club with plenty of different ladies’ and men’s sizes for you to try. I ordered mine a few weeks ago without waiting for the samples to arrive. Fortunately, I ordered the correct size!

If you have a Wessex shirt and are no longer playing in that team, could you return it to the club, please? Many thanks.

Please try your very best to come in to pay your subs BEFORE 18th. We are open every morning and Friday evening. If you try to pay your subs when the season has begun, it gets very congested at reception and people’s patiences become stretched.

Do remember that you will not be allowed to play if your subs have not been paid. Please make the effort to come in to pay this week.

Over the last few years, the numbers for the 200 Club have declined considerably. We are nowhere near that number. We need to have a minimum of 100 in order for it to continue. Obviously, we would like it to continue. To attract more members, the suggestion is that we do away with the snowball and increase the winnings to: £75.00, £25.00 and £15.00. The draw would go back to being done in the office as we did during Covid.

However, if we do not hit the 100 mark before the end of September, we will have to disband the 200 Club and return the money to those who have already paid £20.00 for their share number.

National Highways notification.

As you can see from the photocopy below, this notification was sent to the Cricket Club but it obviously will impact many of you.

Howard and I will not be affected by this – we have to contend with just four or five years’ disruption due to “The Missing Link”. If you’ve noticed in the field near “The Air Balloon”, excavations are being conducted by archaeologists.

They are searching for Iron Age and Roman relics. I’d love to go to observe but I don’t think that’s possible.

Many of us are reaching tricky ages where we may be thinking of things like making a will, power of attorney, care packages, equity release schemes, etc.

If you would be interested in talks on these subjects, could you sign up on the board to register your interest? Nobody really wants to think or talk about such things but, should the situation arise, it would be useful to know some facts beforehand.

Provided sufficient people sign up, this could be organised.

Not a very pleasant note to end on but it could prove invaluable.

Take care everyone. Looking forward to seeing our outdoor bowlers back in the club.
