Hello everyone,

Well, what AM I going to do now?!! Wimbledon’s finished!

I’m exhausted having just played five sets against Djokovic! Thank goodness I got the right result! I was bitterly disappointed yesterday so I needed that win. What a match!

Moving on…. we had a lovely break away but now we’re back to business. I have to start by congratulating Pam Slater for her excellent Cotswold Perfumery talk. Everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed it and have requested more from her. Her next one will be on pearls and she has promised to do one to do with Christmas probably in December. Keep your eyes open here for possible dates.

I’ve also had the offer of a talk with a three course meal included about guide dogs. This will be when we’re back in the swing of the winter season. There is also the possibility of one about coffee too so I am pleased to say that this aspect of the club is taking off.

Our elder daughter lives in Guildford and is an artist. She is coming up in August and has offered to do one of her very popular paper flower workshops for us.

These beautiful specimens are made from crepe paper. Kate supplies all of the materials not to mention her guidance throughout the whole process. The session lasts for two and a half to three hours to include a glass of Prosecco and scones, clotted cream and strawberry jam. You will go home with a lovely rose which doesn’t need water and does not die, not to mention the expertise to create more. The cost is £40.00 and it will be on the evening of 24th August beginning at 6.00p.m.

To make it worthwhile (there is a lot of preparation required beforehand), she needs a minimum of six and a maximum of twelve. If you are interested, please either let me or reception know.

Although we gained a few new members from the open day, we would have liked more. Can I remind you that, as club members, it is everyone’s responsibility to try to “grow” the club? Try to encourage your friends and neighbours to come and give it a try. Please let the club know if you’re a member of any organisation such as W.I., Rotary, Townswomen’s Guilds, etc. which we could welcome as a group to come to see our facilities and try their hand at bowling with the benefit of coaching.

On Saturday, we had another well-supported quiz hosted by Norman Hancock and his wife, Sheila. Next month’s will be hosted by Steve and Tricia Bluck. This coming Friday, 21st is the next 200 Club draw.

I know it’s depressing to have to mention this but the winter season is approaching. It’s time for the captains to be thinking about their teams for the coming season. Last winter, there were just three rinks occupied on a Tuesday evening. It has been suggested that the remaining four rinks could be taken up with pairs. If you are interested in captaining a team, please contact Steve Bluck. Teams would need to consist of, ideally four players.

I need a well-earned break now after all that tennis!

Take care,

Linda

Wouldn’t it be better to get more teams on Tuesday evenings rather than pairs? Teams would generate more rink fees than pairs.

Ideally yes, but the option to enter more teams into the Tuesday evening fours league has been available for years and none has come forward. Interest has been expressed by some members in playing in an evening Pairs league, so we will try and meet that demand to run alongside the existing Tuesday league, as no other evening is available.
