Newsletter Issue 147

Hello everyone,

There wasn’t a great deal of news to report last week, hence no newsletter.

However, we are now in the week leading up to our OPEN DAY this Saturday, 10th June, 10.00a.m. to 4.00p.m. Thank you to all those of you who’ve offered help on the day. My plea now is for offers of homemade cakes. Please, let either reception or Jill Whiting know if you are able to provide one. We usually have a lovely variety.

I hope the word has been spread and that sufficient folks have been tempted to visit and have a go. I e-mailed Mark Cummings of Radio Gloucester fame asking him to give us a mention or two this week. He responded positively so listen out to hear our name being broadcast on the radio.

He also asked if we would be interested in putting together a team of three or four people to enter his morning quiz. The questions are largely based on a knowledge of Gloucestershire so that rules out Howard and me. However, I know that, amongst our members, there are some very knowledgeable people on that subject. The members of the team can each be on different ‘phone numbers. The quiz takes part each day, Monday to Friday, for one week at 8.45 or 9.15.

This is another great opportunity to get MidGlos IBC known in the local community. If you fancy your luck, either get a team together and give your names in at reception or individually let reception know and we’ll make up a team from there. I hope we can make this work. Over to you…..

Don’t forget that on Thursday, 8th June (this Thursday), the main car park will be closed since the lines are being painted – no excuse for sloppy parking afterwards! The overflow car park will be available for use instead. The paint dries very quickly so we’ll be back to normal on Friday.

Most of you will know that there has been talk around the club of a new club shirt. A small team, lead by Kath, have arranged with a local company on the business park to manufacture one for us, similar in style to the Wessex shirt but predominantly white instead of the Wessex burgundy. They should marry well together. When a sample is ready, it will be on display at the club. Don’t panic, we don’t expect everyone to rush to buy one but this will replace the club shirt we’ve had for years with a more up to date number.

Fingers crossed for a good turnout on Saturday and for it to result in more new members. I did say in my e-mail to Mark that it’s a great sport for all ages with one look out – you could become hooked – I am, as you may all have noticed. Bowling changed my life and I think that is so for many people. Not only is it physical and mental exercise but it is the social contact too that is so important.

Hope to see you on Saturday with some new faces.

Take care,

Lind
