Hello,
The last newsletter before Christmas and the good news is that today was the shortest day! From now on the days begin to lengthen, admittedly imperceptibly initially, but we will notice a difference by mid-January.
It was the monthly quiz on Saturday hosted by Fred Croxton and Harold Grouse. As usual it was well supported and enjoyed by everyone. Sadly we don’t have sufficient volunteers to man the bar so different ones had to mix playing in the quiz and being behind the bar. If more people don’t come forward to offer help, we will be unable to open the bar. That would be a real shame.
I know I keep harping on about the lack of volunteers but the club relies on them. We are not in a position to pay for staff so, if we want to continue enjoying things like the bar, we all have to do our bit. We are very lucky to be members of such a great club. Without volunteers, things just don’t happen. Please try to do your bit.
Today Gill and Roger Fry set up and organised two hours of fun bowling which did indeed prove to be fun once we got the hang of it.This was followed by a very tasty two course Christmas meal again reliant on volunteers.
Chris Frusher and Jill Whiting shopped for the ingredients in the week and were in this morning to prep and later cook the food. They were joined by Fay Marsh, Jean Bureau and Margaret Cadle.Greg Marsh and Anne Hesling not only worked behind the bar but served the food too. They were later joined by Graham Whiting who both served and cleared up along with the others. All in all they worked damned hard. Well done everybody! Much appreciated.
Thanks must go to the attendees too who supported the club by buying tickets but I think they’ll agree that it really was well worth the money. Thank you.
The next big event will be Burns Night. Keep a look out on the social events notice board. Amanda is working very hard to make the social side of the club work. She is ably assisted by David whose support she relies on. The final figure is not calculated yet but this afternoon raised a tidy amount for the club. Well done.
I wished you all a happy Christmas last week but I’m repeating it this week too. When we return after New Year, our first national comp is the third round of the Mason Trophy on Friday, 2nd January against Malvern, one rink at home and one away. If you’re not playing in the umbrella, why not come to support?
I think that’s it for this week. Stay healthy,
Take care,
Linda.Linda Watkin-Jones.
