Hello,
By the time this hits you, we’ll be driving down to Bathampton to stay in a converted farm building for a few days. I’ve been watching the weather forecast and I think we’ve missed the best of the weather – typical!
I’ll begin with the sad news.

Dave’s funeral is at 11.30a.m. on Monday 9th June at Gloucester Crem followed by the wake at the Crem.
Campbell’s funeral is at 1.00p.m. on Wednesday 18th June followed by the wake at Cheltenham BC Suffolk Square.
I have received an email from Dave Giles who, even though he’s heavily involved with outdoor bowling, has still been working hard for MidGlos.
The bowls cupboard has been filling up over time with bowls which have very kindly been donated by our club members due to a number of reasons. Some have downsized, some have donated their outdoor bowls when they have decided to concentrate on indoors and others who have decided to “hang up” their bowls.
The cupboard was becoming a little overwhelmed by bowls so Dave took the opportunity to advertise all of the bowls not suitable for coaching and he has managed to sell all of them except a couple of cannonballs sizes 5 and 6 for which there appears to be little demand these days.
So far, this has resulted in a profit of £766.00 for club coffers! Dave will be using the proceeds to update our existing coaching bowls and to replace the coloured woods donated by Rich Eeles which mysteriously disappeared from the cupboard after being used by someone from an away team.
Thanks must go to Dave and all the people who have generously donated their bowls or those of a former member. This has been a great help.
Thankfully I do have some more good news to report. Many of you, particularly Quiz goers will remember Norman Hancock. The last time he delivered a quiz, he looked very poorly and his daughter was on standby to take over if he couldn’t manage to finish it.
Soon after, he and his wife, Sheila moved down to Torquay to be two doors away from their daughter. In fact, he popped in to see us all while we were down in Torquay. He looked much better than the last time we saw him but he was on dialysis three times a week at hospital.
A couple of weeks ago, out of the blue, he received a telephone call to say that a kidney had become available. He was on the list but time was running out because of his age. However, he’s had a successful transplant and, after a few setbacks, he’s recovering well. I hope he reads this since, while we were in Torquay, he told me that he still receives the newsletter. Here’s to a speedy recovery and the start of a new life, Norman.
I have yet more good news, the sort that I don’t often have the opportunity to announce (in fact, I can safely say that I’ve never had the opportunity before!). We have a wedding!
Amanda F-M and David Hanks are tying the knot this coming Saturday, 7th June. They are both previously widowed and have been through some sad, tough times.
They are starting a new chapter and we wish them a happy and healthy marriage.
Hopefully, I’ll have some photos soon.
All that remains for me to say is take care and enjoy your bowling while we’re away.
Linda.
