Hello again,
As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, the area final of the Mason’s was played on Friday morning against Malvern. Well done to the away team who won but unfortunately it didn’t go the right way for the home team. Overall we lost by just four shots which shows how tight the game was. For different reasons, the home team were not really on their game and all the luck went the wrong way. It happens but very frustrating. Sadly we are now out of that competition but we’ll come back fighting next year.
Both Wessex A and B were playing this morning – A against Carterton A and the B team against Chipping Norton. Our A team put up a very strong fight against Carterton but lost overall by eight shots.
However, our B team came through on top for the first time in several years!!! What an accomplishment! Overall they won by five shots so by no means an easy battle. Huge congratulations! Onwards and upwards!
Both games were exciting to watch and I’m pleased to say that there were several supporters.
In the afternoon after the Wessex matches, there was a friendly against Cheltenham Town (better known as Suffolk Square) but I’ll have to update you on the outcome next week.
Our monthly quiz was held on Saturday with a record number of attendees. The host was Les Howard assisted by Sheila who stepped in since Chris, Les’s wife was unable to attend. Thank you Sheila.
Already the sheets for next month’s quiz are almost full so move quickly if you’d like to secure a place. The compilation of the quizzes takes a considerable amount of time so well done to all those who take on the task. On the evening, it takes a lot of people to make it run smoothly. Thank you to everyone who helps in one way or another.
The quarter final of the Denny Cup is to be played on a neutral green against Nottingham on Saturday, 8th February. The venue is to be Tamworth in Staffordshire (God’s own country contrary to popular beliefs!). This will be a very exciting match (both Les Gillet and Simon Skelton play at Nottingham) so we are looking into hiring a coach for both the players and supporters. A sheet will be going up for you to sign if you would like to support. To get this far is an achievement in itself whatever the result (be it a win or a loss).
This Saturday, 25th January is the first of the men’s Saturday Interclub. Sadly there is no ladies’ Interclub this year due to lack of support from the outdoor clubs. I really hope we can bring this back next year.
MidGlos is playing Suffolk Square. Good look guys!
The 25 year pins which I spoke about last week are now on sale for £3.00 at reception. We opened on our present site on 18th February, 2000.
Until next week, take care.
Linda.
