Newsletter Issue 90

Hello everyone,

Well, we’ve said “goodbye” to our outdoor bowler friends for the summer season. How sad but we wish them well in their various clubs and look forward to reuniting in September.

In the meantime, there are still events in the winter season on which to be reported.

Recently both Nathan Kitchen and Steve Knight were competing in events much more prestigious than club competitions.

Nathan was playing in the National Finals in Nottingham in the 2 wood where he lost in the last 16, 20:21 to the eventual winner, Jamie Walker. Well done, Nathan – a sterling performance!

At around about the same time, Steve Knight was competing in the U.K. Open at Stanley Bowling Club in Durham and was knocked out in the qualifying quarter final. Again, an enviable accomplishment. Well done to both of you! Onwards and upwards!

During the winter season, MidGlos played nineteen friendlies and lost only one. There should have been five more friendlies but they were cancelled due to insufficient players on the opposing sides, mainly due to Covid. Many thanks to all who put their names forward. However, there is always room for more volunteers, regardless of standard. It is an ideal opportunity for those relatively new to the game to get involved. These games are exactly what it says on the packet – friendly – and a great experience. Many thanks to our Fixtures Secretary, John Doody and to Steve Bluck who captains many of them.

It is the AGM this Wednesday evening, 13th April at 7.00pm. Unfortunately Janet White has withdrawn her application for Club Secretary due to personal reasons. I believe John, her husband, is not very well. We wish them both well.

Thank you to all the supporters of the ladies’ pairs final on Friday morning. There are still three finals to be played before 20th April, the presentation evening.

There is a ladies’ singles final (date to be announced), the mixed pairs final to be played this Thursday morning, 14th April at 10.00am and the Champion of Champions to be played this evening, 11th April at 6.30pm.

(Sorry for the short notice but the date wasn’t confirmed until Friday).

The club is being opened specially for this match. Please come along to support. It is between Gill Fry and Steve Knight. It should be a very good match!

The newsletter next week will not be on the website since Steve Knight, our webmaster, will be sunning himself with his family in Cyprus. However, there will still be one but it will be “mailchimped” out to you by Kath. Happy hols, Steve and family.

Even if you’re an outdoor bowler, life still goes on at MidGlos. The quizzes will still be held each month (the next one being on 21st May) and there may well be other social functions. I’ll do my best to keep you informed. Check the website to see the summer opening times and you’ll be made welcome if you decide to pop in for a coffee and chat.

In the meantime, take care and enjoy life,

Linda.

Just like to say a sincere thank you to the person who found my debit card in the car park and left it behind the desk.
