Newsletter Issue 85

Hello everyone,

We’re back after a very enjoyable time at Potters. Some of us had been before and knew what to expect but all the newcomers were very impressed and I think would like to go again.

Apart from bowling, there is plenty to do. A few ladies and Ron Wilks enjoyed line dancing (Sandy Kerr does have a video to prove it!). Several of us managed a bracing walk along the front at Gorleston where we found the Banksy original about which I had read in the paper a few weeks ago. Howard and Russ (a very good Notts player – in fact he was the skip of the winning team) were our resident photographers!

As I said in the last newsletter, we teamed up with Nottingham and went by the name of “Nomid” (a combination of the two clubs). After the four game round robin, seven Nomid teams got through to the last sixteen out of ninety-two teams.

Sheila Kingswell, Ron Wilks, Jill and Graham Whiting were knocked out in the last sixteen and Colin Carter, Shirley Cromie, Campbell and Margaret McColl were knocked out in the quarters. Well done for reaching the latter stages.

By the time it reached the semis, three teams made it (two of the teams were Chris and Mike Prosser and Jackie and Paul Phelpstead and

Steve Bluck, Chris Brooker, Roger and Gill Fry). The other team was made up of Nottingham players who went on to win the final on Friday morning.

Well done to all of them. Unfortunately my team missed the last sixteen by just one shot. There is a rather long explanation to that but I won’t bore you with it!

Now back to MidGlos business. There is a change to the semi finals of the Wednesday night interclub. It was due to be played during Gold Cup week but that would mean that Bishops Cleeve players could have difficulty getting to the club.

The semi final between Cheltenham and Bishops Cleeve … and Cheltenham Spa and Co-op (apologies for omitting you in the previous newsletter) will be held on 23rd March and the final will be on 30th March.

The ladies’ meeting is to take place at 12.45 on 15th March. There are notices around the club but this is just a reminder in case you miss them. This is for ALL the ladies. As I said in the last newsletter, we need to build our pool of ladies from which to select for the different competitions. Why not come along and see what happens in the meeting? We’d appreciate any input from our ladies.

It is that time of year again when we begin thinking of the summer season. On Tuesday and Thursday mornings respectively, there are eleven and seven teams. Ideally we would like one more team for each. Give it some thought and, if you’d like to enter a new team, please get in touch with Steve Bluck. Alternatively, if you would like to play on those days, again give your name to Steve and we can maybe make up a team.

Look forward to seeing everybody back at the club this week.

Take care,

Linda.
