Have you been watching World Bowls? I can’t believe that both Nick Brett and Mark Dawes are out of both the men’s pairs and the mixed. When Mark’s local club closed, he should have come to MidGlos. We’re half an hour nearer than the Spalding club which he joined meaning that he could have got more practice in!!
Seriously, there have been some really good matches and quite a few surprises.
The interclub matches went ahead last Saturday with Cheltenham coming first, followed by Barnwood. MidGlos gained third place while Cheltenham Spa were fourth. Congratulations to all winners and thank you to all those who took part over the last few weeks. Dai Jones was our professional photographer on the day. Thank you, Dai.
The midweek interclub continues this coming Wednesday with MidGlos A playing Cheltenham and MidGlos B playing Caer Glow Tigers while on the following Wednesday, 2nd February, MidGlos B is playing Caer Glow Lions.
Our A team beat Cotswold B in the Wessex on Sunday morning but, unfortunately the B team lost to Chipping Norton. This morning, the ladies were in action with MidGlos A team against the B team – not ideal but at least one team was certain of going through. On this occasion it was the turn of the A team winning by just two shots. It was a close game played in good spirits. It’s just a shame that one team had to lose.
Breaking news … MidGlos IBC will be open on the afternoons of Wednesday 26 th January and Wednesday 2 nd February for Internal Club Competitions to be played. Anyone wishing to book a rink should do so through Reception in the normal way.
As you probably are all aware the Covid restrictions are being eased. From 27th January (next Thursday) the wearing of masks is no longer compulsory.
In other words, we are now being trusted to assess the risks and make our own decisions. If you still feel happier to wear a mask, then, by all means do so. Two jacks and sanitizer stations are still in place.
If you’re coming to Burns Night, I hope that you enjoy it. It certainly has the makings of being a fun and enjoyable evening. I’ll report on it next week.
In the meantime, take care,
Linda.
