Hiya!

Did you spot the deliberate error last time? It was Delibarate.

Look out for this week’s deliberate error.

Let’s go.

Bowls stuff

I have just taken part in the Singles draw bowls competition held on Saturday 27th June. This was great fun and a brilliant way to practice your draw shots. The only real disappointment was the lack of support with only 17 taking part.

As you can see in the photo, a 6 foot barrier needed to be avoided and then you had to send two forehand and two backhand bowls at the jack, positioned on the ‘T’. Scoring was 1 point if your bowl finished within a yard of the jack, 3 points within 18 inches and 5 points for a toucher.

After six rounds the final results were

1st with 29 points Richard Eeles, 2nd with 27 points Colin Prosser and 3rd = with 25 points each, Dave Owen & Tony Letts who all received cash prizes.

Many thanks to Graham for organising the event, to Jill, Chris and Layla for volunteering with the catering/bar and to Howard and Pam for acting as markers.

Do look out for the next one in August and come and join in the fun!

Youth Bowls

The  British Bowls Under-18 International Series  will be held at Victoria Park, Royal Leamington Spa on Sunday 19 and Monday 20 July. The squad including our own Dylan Williamson, Josh Hodges, Louie Hodges and Erin Burke will be in battle against Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

Board stuff

I’m very pleased to announce that  Avril Goddard has been appointed Catering manager. This is a new post designed to support our catering volunteers. This still leaves two vacancies on the board – Director of Marketing & PR and Director of Catering though we are hoping to co-opt a Director of Marketing & PR this week. Watch this space.

The new board is currently in the process of acquiring various marketing materials both for noticeboards but also for manned displays in Supermarkets and the like. This is all part of our drive for new members and thereby to increase our revenue.

Jill has continued to do a sterling job on cleaning our remaining coffee machine. We will soon be ordering a second machine Would those volunteers who put their names forward to help with catering, please let Avril know if you would be happy to take a turn cleaning and refilling both the existing and new machines. Thanks in advance.

Liz has been working hard on finding ways for the office to generate less paper.

If you have any ideas for other social events which you would like us to consider, please get in touch.

Getting to know you.

My name is David Hanks. I was born in Cheltenham and have two brothers including my twin Stephen – whom most of you have been confused by!

When I left school I trained as an electrician  where I met the famous Noddy. I married in 1984 and a year later joined Schindler lifts and escalators,  where I worked for 37 Years.  Nine months after retiring my wife passed away, and this was when I took up Bowling lessons – I probably still need more!

As many of you know I married Amanda last year, and have been supporting her with the social activities within Mid Glos club which is nearly a full time role!

I am currently Director of Health & Safety.
