Hello all,

My goodness, I can’t believe it’s December already!

First of all, if you weren’t able to get a ticket for “The Cherry Reds” and chicken and chips, make sure you get in early for the next one. It was a great night. The duo were excellent, and the food was lovely. Well done to Chris, our resident chef, aided by Jill, Amanda and David and to the bar people. This was the first real event that Amanda has tackled and I’m so pleased that it was a success.

The tickets for the fun bowls and 2-course meal go on sale today, 1st December. Make sure that you have enough money for your ticket(s) after splashing out with Mark Royle!

Whilst on the subject of bowls, Dave Giles has asked for the following to be included:

Thanks to the success of our membership marketing campaigns, we have been able to recruit a growing number of new bowlers in the last two years.  This has resulted in an increased demand by our new bowlers for the use of our coaching bowls.

As a club, we recommend to all new bowlers to make use of our coaching bowls and to try out bowls used by other members before they make an informed decision on which bowl suits them before buying a set of their own.  However, we would expect any member to purchase a set of their own as soon as they are able, and certainly within 12 months of joining the club.  Not doing so deprives new members of using woods that are for their benefit only.

Because demand for coaching bowls has significantly increased and because at least three sets of coaching bowls have ‘disappeared’, it will be necessary to restrict the use of coaching bowls, only to members who have joined the club since January 2025.

If any member who joined the club prior to 2025 is still using coaching woods, then with effect from 1st January 2026 this will no longer be permitted, and he/she will be required to purchase their own set.  If this does cause difficulty to anyone after January 2026, then the club will loan club bowls at a charge of £20 per month.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Under no circumstances whatsoever should members store club coaching bowls in their lockers. Any bowls currently stored in lockers should be returned to the coaching cupboard.

If anyone has any questions concerning this item, please contact Dave Giles, Lead Coach

Graham Whiting has also asked me to put out a plea for one more player for his “Coriniums” team on Thursday mornings. Please either see Graham or give your contact details at reception.

I’m delighted to announce that our Wessex B team beat Fairford today 78/63. They’ve now moved up the league table to fifth position ahead of Fairford and Cotswold B. Well done.

MidGlos were at home to Bristol in a friendly today. Results next week.

On Friday morning, the Mason Trophy is being played against Cotswold, one rink at home and one away, while the Yetton Trophy is being played on Saturday morning against Solihull, two rinks at home and two away at the same time as the men are playing in the Denny Cup, two rinks at home and two away.

Another busy weekend!

And next Sunday morning, the third round of the Egham Trophy is being played, two rinks at home and two away against Solihull.

Until next week, take care,

Linda.

Linda Watkin-Jones.
