Hello,

What a good news week for MidGlos!!

On Wednesday, Louie Hodges and Dylan Williamson heard that they’d been selected to play in the U18’s England squad this season – Louie in the Singles and Dylan in the Pairs, partnering Louie. Congratulations to you both. And to those who missed out this year, your time will come, and you’ll be that much more accomplished by then.

On Saturday, the ladies were playing in the Yetton against Cotswold while the men were against Chipping Norton in the Denny.

Although I was playing in one of the matches at Cotswold, I have to single it out. We were 21/5 down and we thought “dead in the water” but we fought back to win 23/22 after 21 ends. I think that’s called coming back from the dead. Overall, we won comfortably.

I don’t know the men’s score, but I do know that they won.

Today, we were playing Cotswold in the Egham – two rinks at home and two away. What a tough match! For much of the game, we were neck and neck. We’d finished at home and eagerly awaited the scores coming in from away. After a very tense wait, we heard that we’d won overall by just four shots. What a nail-biting game!

Saturday’s matches were followed by the quiz in the evening. I had announced that it would be a little different from usual. Our quizmaster was Steve Bluck, who delivered an excellent quiz as always but instead of the picture round (or the like) we had a talk from our sponsors, Tivoli Legal.

Their Financial Director, Ian, explained that equity release is now heavily regulated and not the nightmare that it was years ago, while Ailsa and her team deal with the conveyancing side of buying and selling property. They left us some merchandise, which I recommend you read through.

Roger Fry has put out another plea for more entries into the club comps. He has extended the last entry date to 19th December in order to give time for those who’ve not yet completed their forms. Competitions will start in January, but we need the following additional entries to make 10 of the comps feasible to run:

LADIES

  • 2 Wood Singles,
  • Pairs (1team),
  • Triples (2teams),
  • Over 60s 4 Wood Singles (1) and
  • Over 60s 2 Wood Singles (2)

MEN

  • Pairs (1team) and
  • Triples (1 team)

MIXED

  • Under 25 Singles 4 Wood (3)
  • Sue Waterston Triples (3 teams) and
  • Triples (1 team)

Come on, get your names down. It’s all good practice and experience.

A reminder that Cribbage is on this Tuesday evening and Bingo is on Saturday, 3.00 – 5.00 p.m.

Christmas raffle tickets (£1.00) are now on sale at reception, and donations are gratefully received. Decent stuff only, please.

Christmas Fun Bowling on 21st December with a 2-course meal £20.00.

I am now off for a well-earned rest.
