It all starts again next week when the winter season begins with much more going on. Not only will be welcoming back our members who deserted us in the summer to play outside, usually in the wind and rain but not this year, but we will be playing on a faster green – the carpet is being stretched early on Wednesday morning. Thank you to Vince who will be opening up. So we will all be in pretty much the same boat – no advantage to those of us who bowl indoors all year round.

By now you should all be aware that it is our open weekend this coming Saturday and Sunday, 10.00a.m. to 4.00p.m. There is a sheet to sign on the whiteboard by reception if you are able to volunteer some time to help in any capacity. A few of us have already offered to make a cake. Any more will be gratefully received. Our last open weekend was very successful in attracting new members. Let’s hope we can better it this time.

Last night’s quiz night, run very efficiently by Tony Letts (you’d never guess that he was a teacher! – that’s not meant in any derogatory way since it comes from another former teacher, yours truly) was a great success. I was able to contribute far more than usual. Tony just happened to ask more of the right questions.

Howard announced that, from next month, non-members will be asked to pay an extra £1.00 or they have the choice to join as a social member. On that note Amanda talked of more social events coming up. She’s trying very hard to make this work but she pointed out that it all depends on your support. She’s giving it a go for six months but, if the events are not supported, she’s not going to flog a dead horse.

There are quite a few ideas floating around – music evening, comedy evening, bridge lessons, horse racing evening, yoga, Burns night, etc. There is a sheet up for suggestions of what you would like. Please give it some thought.

Cribbage is starting on Tuesday, 7th October, 7.00-9.00p.m. (£3.00 per member, £4.00 per non-member.

There is an indoor table top sale on Saturday, 18th October, 9.30 a.m. to 12.30a.m.

  • £5.00 a table for members
  • £10.00 for non-members.

On Sunday, 26th October, from 3.00p.m. to 5.00p.m. there will be a Bingo session. Tea and biscuits will be available, the bar will be open and it is £1.00 a strip. You’d have to pay me a lot more than a pound to strip!!!

On 29th November, there will be a meal and music night – more information nearer the time.

So there’s a lot to look forward to. That’s all for now folks.

Take care,

Linda.

Linda Watkin-Jones.

Director (PR & Marketing)

PS Howard’s second book is being launched on 2nd October, and he is doing a book signing session at Octavia’s book shop in Black Jack Street, Cirencester from 11am on Saturday 4th October.
