Newsletter Issue 250

Hello everyone from a damp Chedworth today,

Those of you who were at the club any time after Thursday will have noticed that the original very heavy and cumbersome chairs have been replaced by new smaller, lighter, stacking chairs. Most are without arms but there are some with arms for those who need them. Both models are less bulky and fit under the tables so giving us more room.

The original chairs are either down the sides of the rinks, in the board room or in the ladies’ changing room. They are being advertised on Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree, etc. If you are on Facebook, could you help us by sharing the advert with your contacts, please? They are very sturdy chairs, just too heavy and bulky for our members who regularly have to move them.

The chairs are £20 each, discount available for multiples of, two styles and two colours. 110 chairs available.

A huge thank you to all those who helped with the reorganisation of all the chairs. We purchased two stacking chair trolleys at the same time, which made the job easier and will enable us to move a number of stacked chairs at a time.

We have wanted to replace them for some time and the lovely surprise of money available to us from Tewkesbury BC has enabled us to do so. I must reiterate that this money can be used against invoices only which have first been approved by the council.

They have also approved the purchase of two new wheelchairs (the present ones are well past their best), three rollators (similar to the one which Malcolm Blount uses) to enable the disabled or people really struggling to walk up and down the green and another extending arm (again for mobility issues).

A number of other things are under consideration. The money has been allocated to us for our use; we don’t have to spend it all at once.

May I take this opportunity to scotch any rumours that we are in debt. We have been free of debt for quite a while now and have no intention of putting the club in a position where we have to borrow. That is why we work so hard to safeguard the financial stability of the club.

This coming Tuesday evening (22nd) sixteen people from a skittles group are coming for a taster session. Many thanks to those giving up their time to run the session. Fingers crossed that it tempts a few to take it further and try our coaching lessons.

Please spread the word that our next open week-end is 27th & 28th September. If you’re a member of an outdoor club as well as MidGlos, please give us a mention and make folks aware of the date of the open week-end.

We have a young member, Ross Bolland who is looking for volunteers to have regular roll-ups with him. If you are interested, could you please get in touch with Dave Giles at:  davegiles999@gmail.com

At our monthly quiz last night, people responded to the short questionnaire on each table. Kath compiled it and will feed back the results soon.

It was Sheila’s quiz and I have just received the following from her. On her way home, she realised that she had committed the cardinal sin of omission and had forgotten to thank all the helpers, without whom the quiz would be an utter disaster so in reparation:

“Here goes.

Many thanks to Anne for being my glamorous and very able assistant; Steve, Tricia, Margaret and Elly who are mostly responsible for the food; to Noddy, Dave, Amanda and Graham for sorting out the tables and chairs; Elly for selling raffle tickets; Helen who had the Herculean task of pretty much manning the bar by herself for most of the evening, with a little help from Harold when he was able to and Jill who helped with cashing up at the end of the evening.

If I’ve forgotten anyone, my humble apologies. Give yourself a pat on the back anyway.

Kind regards,

Sheila”

I notice she didn’t say anything about how much she enjoyed using the microphone!!

I think that’s it for this week. There will not be a newsletter next week since we are away for a few days.

Take care everyone,

Linda.
