Hello everyone,

And the heat goes on! Fred Croxton and I along with the “i-sing choir” were singing at Cheltenham Racecourse this morning. At the same time we were cheering on the brave folks running in “The Race for Life” raising funds to fight against cancer.

Fortunately, it was cloudy at the time but still very muggy. All ages were running from little dots right up to some very much older and even dogs (I’m not sure how sensible that was in the heat). However, as far as I was aware, there were no casualties.

I think, I’ve managed to get round everyone who’d offered their help with the Cheltenham U3A this Friday, 4th July because, unfortunately, due to holidays and other factors, they’ve had to cancel. Hopefully, we’ll be able to do it later in the year. In addition, it’s not confirmed yet, but our next OPEN WEEKEND will probably be the last weekend in September.

Finally, our chairman has some unexpected good news. Over to Howard:

Some Good News
(but with rules attached)

Tewkesbury Borough Council recently contacted the club and gave us some pleasant and unexpected news. We are to receive some S106 money created by a property developer and paid to Tewkesbury BC for community projects.

Our first tranche of money is in the region of £58,000 … but we do not receive it as a cash payment. We have to use the money to purchase things that the club needs and for repairs and replacement of club property and contents. Once the Board decides what to spend the money on, then we have to present a proposal to Tewkesbury BC. Then the Council have to agree that the money requested is within the bounds of the agreement. If it is, then approval is given.

Key point is that the money cannot be used for such things as wages and normal daily running costs of the club.

The Board are in the process of identifying the things the club needs that we would spend this money on. But we must stay within the constraints of the ‘rules’ that Tewkesbury BC have identified.

This is a wonderful surprise to all of us and will enable the club to stay in good order for several years to come.
