Newsletter Issue 246

Hello again,

Much as I love the sunny weather, I’m not liking the humidity. Thank goodness we can escape to the air-conditioned club. Those of you who bowl outdoors, do remember that your membership is for the whole of the year so, if you fancy some respite from the hot sunshine, we’re open every weekday morning and our coffee is much cheaper than any cafe/coffee shop.

Just another reminder that the deposit for Torquay in March (not February as “someone” mentioned in last week’s newsletter!) is due by the end of June (the day that the Wimbledon tournament begins). If you like tennis and missed the men’s final at Queens yesterday, it was well worthy of a final – it is on iPlayer.

Graham and Jill Whiting’s quiz was very enjoyable, but our team was lacking our star player since she was reading the questions – hence our abysmal performance. We know lots of things, just not the answers to the questions posed! That’s not entirely true – it’s the retrieval system that’s too slow for the time allowed.

Unfortunately, the figures were down due to holidays, Top Club, people both playing and spectators and one team failing to turn up, which meant that there was a lot of food left over.

On Friday, 4th July, 2.00 to 4.00 p.m., a group from the Cheltenham U3A are coming to the club for a taster session. Currently, there are about 10/12 people, but the numbers could change up or down in the meantime. We will need helpers to basically guide them. Should any or all of them take to it, then coaching will be available. I am in every day this week, just let me know if you would like to help out.

Take care, especially if this hot weather continues. Make sure you’re taking frequent sips of water.

Linda.
