Hello everyone,
What a week-end! I’m absolutely “tired”, particularly since we’ve just returned from a drinks and nibbles get together with our new neighbours! No lunch, 21 ends and alcoholic drinks ( with not too many nibbles!!!) – not a good recipe!!!
However, I’ll keep going and hope it all gels!🤞
Both the Yetton v Oxford City and County and the Denny v Cotswold were played on Saturday, 16th, two rinks at home and two away. I’m delighted to announce that both are through to the next round. As far as the away team was concerned for the Yetton, it was “interesting”! We were playing on a new carpet which was very slow with a temperature which seemed sub-zero – so much so that I suffered it for a few ends before resorting to my outdoor coat! Fortunately, both the Yetton and the Denny came through with a win.
On Sunday, two rinks were at home and two away playing the Egham against Avon Vale IBC. It was a tough game against a very accomplished team. The result was a very creditable 103/62 win which takes us through to the area semi finals on Sunday, 15th December.
On Sunday afternoon, MidGlos were away at Welford playing a friendly – I haven’t heard the outcome yet but, when I do, I’ll report it here.
Next week MidGlos A men and MidGlos B are playing Cotswold B and Cotswold A respectively, in the morning. In the afternoon, MidGlos is playing Newport in a friendly.
On Saturday evening, our monthly quiz was held, hosted by Jill and Graham Whiting. It was a little “trickier” than usual but still a great night. The next one is our Christmas quiz hosted by Sheila Kingswell on 14th December. Christmas jumpers/ anything Christmassy are definitely in order!
A reminder again about the Potters shop on 1st December – 11.00a.m. until 3.00p.m. (he has to get back to Norfolk – not exactly a short journey!) Our youngsters are at Northampton that day (as mentioned in a previous newsletter 🤞for them).
On the Saturday of the following week (7th), is the craft fair in the Cooper Suite. We will have a table – if you are “crafty”, please contribute. If not, please come along to support.
The Christmas raffle is up and running. Pay your pound and take your chance to win a prize. All proceeds go to the club. When we have to replace the carpet (our most valued asset), it will cost upwards of £50,000! We need to keep topping up the carpet fund!!!
The last thing I have to remind you about is – driving in and out of the club. Please remember that we are near a residential estate. Make sure that you indicate your intent both entering and leaving the club and be aware of children and dog walkers in the area. I must point out too that this works both ways – many a time, I’ve had to break to avoid dog walkers just not looking and crossing in front of me.
Let’s hope that the cold weather forecasted is not too cold! I love the white stuff if only it would fall on the fields alone!
Take care,
Linda.
