Newsletter Issue 125

Greetings,

It’s my birthday (forty and a bit bigger bit than last year) and we’re off to Potters to play in Champion of Champions. We’ve never quite reached the final but we’ll give it another go!

What a week we’ve had! We had quite a dollop of snow which is still largely here in Chedworth. My car is lovely in the summer but absolutely hopeless in conditions such as we’ve had all week. Were it not for Howard’s car, I’d have been marooned. There’s no way I can still get it down our steep lane and onto the treacherous lane which runs through our village.

However, the thaw has now set in so we’re hoping to come back to much better conditions. A number of us have made several inspections of the car park over the last week and, as you know, we had no option but to close the club. Too many accidents would have happened if we’d remained open and our members’ safety is paramount.

Thankfully, we will be open and back to normal today. A huge thank you to all who turned up yesterday to help clear the now much softer ice. They were able to shovel it all to the sides. Since we live so far away, still have treacherous roads here and we were going away today, it was agreed that there was no need for us to make the journey. Thank you again. Take care just in case there are some slippery places. Just enjoy being back and bowling again.

Last week was due to be very busy with all levels of matches going on culminating in the Friday evening Christmas umbrella with turkey baps and mince pies, the Christmas draw and the quiz on Saturday evening.

The Friday evening umbrella and Christmas draw have been moved to this coming Friday, 23rd December and Norman is carrying over his quiz to next December. The turkey baps will be available from 5.00pm onwards. I hope most of the people whose names were down will still be able to make it.

Unfortunately, due to ill health, Barrie has had to step down from hosting some of the quizzes. We shall miss his quizzes and sense of humour. We wish him well and hope that his treatment enables him and Anne to just come along and enjoy themselves.

Next year the dates to enter into your diary for the quizzes are:

14th January

11th February

18th March

15th April

20th May

17th June

15th July

19th August

16th September

21st October

18th November

16th December

Steve and Tricia will be hosting January’s and Howard and I are hosting February’s.

The interclub which was due to take place last Saturday has now been moved to 14th January at 10.00am with the finals being played on 21st January. Also on 21st, we hope to celebrate Burn’s Night wearing tartan to a lesser or greater extent (whatever takes your fancy) and haggis baps with some sort of fun bowling. A notice will be posted in the club for you to sign if you intend coming.

The club is closed from 24th to 27th December inclusive and from 31st December to3rd January 2023 inclusive.

All that remains for me to say is:

I wish you a very Happy Christmas and a Happy and healthy New Year. Hope to see you on 23rd (provided the traffic from Norfolk is kind to us, and the weather!)

Take care,

Linda
