Newsletter Issue 123

Hello again,

Christmas is fast approaching and my diary is crazy (mainly with bowling)! I don’t know how I’ll fit in all the jobs I need to do but somehow I’m sure I’ll squeeze it all in.

Don’t forget to sign up if you’re coming to the Christmas Friday evening umbrella on December 16th. Not only will there be turkey baps and mince pies but mulled wine too! The Christmas raffle will be drawn on that night too so lots of reasons to come. We need to know numbers by 12th December at the latest.

The following day, it’s Norman’s quiz. Should be another good night. I believe there are about seventeen teams signed up. No pressure, Norman.

Now for the sad news. Ken Spink’s funeral is on 14th December at 1.00pm at Cheltenham Crematorium and afterwards at The Royal Oak in Prestbury.

This week-end has been very busy with the Interclub on Saturday morning. MidGlos was playing Cheltenham Spa while Suffolk Square was against Barnwood. MidGlos and Suffolk Square won both matches. The final of the round robin is on Saturday 17th December.

On Sunday morning, both Wessex A and B were playing. A was against Chipping Norton while B was playing Fairford. Overall the A team lost by five and I don’t know the final result of the B team but I believe they lost too. Onwards and upwards. Just put that one behind you.

In the afternoon, a friendly against Bristol was played with MidGlos winning 134-67. What a performance! Well done to all who played.

Last week MidGlos was playing Newport in a friendly with another stunning result for us … 102-65. Keep up the good work!

At the moment, there are lots of Nationals being played. If you are booking a rink, try to avoid a Wednesday evening since six rinks are already being used for the Interclub competition.

There’s another busy week-end coming up. On Friday morning MidGlos A are playing MidGlos B. Sadly one team will be knocked out but at least one MidGlos team will go forward. On Saturday morning the ladies are playing the fourth round of the Yetton Trophy – two rinks at home and two rinks away to Desborough. Fingers crossed. We’ve done very well to get this far but we’d love to go on.

At the same time the men are playing the Denny Plate in the fourth round. Good luck to both the men and the ladies. There will be three rinks available to book from 9.00a.m. to 1.00p.m.

One final thing. Do we have a plumber who is a member or anyone who knows a plumber who would be happy to do the odd job for us? Please contact reception.

Let’s hope the snow forecast for this week misses us. Although I was a December baby, I really don’t like winter. I think I was born into the wrong country. I just love the sun and its warmth.

Take care,

Linda.
