Hello again,
Well, the BBC were at the club filming and interviewing for about three hours on Thursday. After the editing, we came out with about two minutes, at most, exposure on the 6.00p.m. and (for some) the 10.00pm News.
Our chairman is available for autographs provided you make an appointment! I think he did come across well but we were all disappointed that the club wasn’t mentioned by name. Both the producer and journalist had written down MidGlos IBC but we were still referred to as a “bowling club near Gloucester” – not really what we wanted. However, it was an experience.
Thank you to Steve Knight for managing to get the big monitor in The Cooper Suite working. Is there anyone in the club who is capable of moving the aerial from near the coffee machines into the Cooper Suite so that we could show sports events such as World Bowls, Wimbledon, World Cup Football, Rugby, Cricket, etc.?
Now for some very big news –
On 4th December in Nottingham, Finlay Williamson is trialling to get into the under eighteen England team to play in the British International Indoor Bowling Championships. The selector is Nick Brett. The series of games are to be played from Friday 13th to Sunday 15th January at Solihull IBC. Good luck, Fin!
If you play in the day on a Monday, you will have seen a lot of people coming in to the Cooper Suite to play Bridge. Having lost their original venue in Churchdown, they moved to MidGlos. They are pleased to announce that they collected £175.00 for Children in Need. Well done.
The monthly quiz was held on Saturday evening and again was a successful event. Thanks to all who organised it and to those who supported it. Unfortunately, we were unable to make it on this occasion.
Saturday was a very positive day for both the ladies playing in the Yetton Trophy against North Wilts and the men in the Denny Plate against Bristol. We now both go on to play Desborough in Maidenhead in the next round on 10th December.
On this coming Friday, 25th November, the next round of the Mason Trophy is taking place. The A team is playing Malvern Hills while the B team is playing Nailsea. Good luck, ladies.
On Sunday we were well and truly “up against it”! We were playing Clarrie Dunbar in the Top Club. Sadly (as we’d anticipated) they came out on top. However, well done to all who played, especially Gill Fry who came clawing back to take the score to 20/18 in the penultimate end, eventually winning the next end.
Items are beginning to appear on the Christmas Raffle table. Don’t forget to buy your tickets and/or donate a prize.
As usual, I hope I’ve remembered everything.
Take care,
Linda.
Linda Watkin-Jones.
Director (PR & Marketing).

Well done to everyone who engaged with the BBC. The film of the club showed that we have a great facility, it was a shame that we were not introduced by name but when dealing with journalists that is what you have to expect. Our chairman also looked good but did not have sufficient exposure…………
