Newsletter Issue 119

Hello all,

Thank goodness! I have no deaths or funerals to announce. Let’s hope it stays that way for a long time.

I have been asked to inform everyone that, if a team finds itself short of a player on the day, not to ask someone on reception to fill in. This has happened in the past and it means that Kath has to step in and man reception as well as doing her book-keeping work for which she is employed.

I announced all the upcoming National matches taking place at the week-end in the previous newsletter. It was a very successful week-end which began with the ladies playing the Mason Trophy on Friday morning. The A team was playing Cotswold while the B team was playing North Wilts B. Incidentally A and B denotes nothing more than the name of the team – nothing to do with superiority. The A team won 43/32 while the B team won 40/26. Well done.

On Saturday morning MidGlos ladies were playing Bristol ladies in the Yetton Trophy and won by an astonishing margin – 95/38. Again, really well done ladies! A big “thank you” to Janet White and Roger Fry for liaising with one another to keep the scoreboards up to date. Roger also drove to both North Wilts and Bristol. Thank you, Roger.

At the same time that the ladies were playing, the men were playing in the Denny Plate against North Wilts. Our men won too – 91/62. Well done. Both the Yetton and the Denny Plate were supposed to be played over 21 ends but both Bristol and North Wilts conceded after 18 ends which meant I was in time to go to watch my grandson play rugby (I say “watch” but I spent the whole match gasping as one or other of the players got crashed into or ended up under a pile of other none too small players). When he was little and taking an interest in rugby, I suggested that tiddlywinks was a very good game. Needless to say, Granny lost the argument!

On Sunday the Wessex A team was playing Wessex B with the A team coming out on top. Hard luck B team but I hope you enjoyed the game anyway.

The sheets for the internal competitions are now up on the board. If you entered any, please make sure that you know who you’ve been drawn against and also make sure that the match is played before the end date. Thank you again to Roger Fry for drawing up the schedule.

If you’ve played in the Mason and or the Yetton, please check the board and tick your name if you are able to play on the stated dates. Many thanks. We are always struggling for folks willing to drive to the away venues. If you are able to offer your services, please indicate on the sheet.

Enough of the Nationals. On Saturday afternoon, there was a friendly against Dowty and I’m pleased to announce that MidGlos won. Well done again to all who took part and a special thank you to our bar volunteers.

I hope I’ve remembered everything.

Take care,

Linda.
