Newsletter Issue 118

Hello again,

I hate being the purveyor of bad news but sadly, I have to report that Bill Notman died in his sleep on Saturday night. He hadn’t been well enough to play this season but I really thought he’d recover and be back.

He was an excellent lead with a lovely dry sense of humour. He will be missed at the club especially by Chums and Campbell in particular. They had been bowling partners, colleagues and friends for some years. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

Monica White’s funeral is on Monday, 14th November at 1pm at St. Peter’s Church, Leckhampton and afterwards at Hatherley and Reddings Cricket Club.

Sadly Shirley Cromie’s funeral took place at 10.30am last Friday morning. It was a private affair. However, there will be a celebration of her life held in The Cooper Suite at 7.00p.m. on Friday 11th November. Please let reception know of your intention to attend so that catering arrangements can be made.

Please, let this be the last bit of sad news for a while. It has become far too regular.

Now for the better news:

The “Wear it Pink” day raised £156.92 in donations on the day and £65.00 on the “Just Giving” page. Thank you to all who participated and donated to this very worthwhile cause.

It’s another week-end of important National matches and a friendly against Dowty on Saturday afternoon.

On Friday morning, 4th November, the Mason’s is being played. MidGlos A is playing Cotswold (one rink at home and one away) and MidGlos B is playing North Wilts (one rink at home and one away).

On Saturday morning, 5th November, the Yetton is being played against Bristol (two rinks at home and two rinks away).

On Sunday morning, 6th November, the men are playing the Wessex – MidGlos A v MidGlos B.

Good luck to all taking part.

Once again, support would be appreciated.

Therefore there will be rinks available to book on both Saturday and Sunday mornings. Please book your times with reception.

My appeal last week for people to step forward to help in the office fell on deaf ears apart from just one member who already gives his time in another area. Please, the opening of the club depends on those kind people who are willing to put something back into the club by donating a couple of hours every two weeks.

There is a small working party on Tuesday and Wednesday this week to clear leaves and any plant life growing on the roof. Hopefully, this will address the small leak which appeared in The Cooper Suite last week. If not, it will be a more costly job. Fingers crossed.

Please look after yourselves.

No more sad news.

Linda.

Condolences to the family and friends of Bill, he was as you said Linda a very good bowls player, he had a dry sense of humour and liked to tease. Basically a lovely man.
It is a shame that we at MidGlos were not invited to Shirley funeral, it would have been a full house but I am sure that we will give her a good send off on Friday 11th November.

i played as lead many times against bill and
found him a tough person to play against but
he was always a good sport and had a great
