Newsletter Issue 117

Hello everyone,

I’ll start with the uplifting news before the yet more sad news.

I was pleased to see that a good number of folks made the effort to wear something pink on Friday in support of breast cancer awareness, particularly since so many of our ladies have been affected by it.

On Friday evening at the umbrella and the Whist club lots of people made the effort (some more than others – yes, that is your responsible Chairman sporting the very fetching outfit. Thank goodness he had trousers on too!).

A number of Nationals took place over the week-end. The Yetton and the Denny were both played at home and away to Cotswold on Saturday. The ladies are through to the next round of the Yetton Trophy while the men missed out on continuing in the Denny Trophy but will go on to play in the Denny Plate.

The next round of Top Club was played yesterday against Bristol at home and I’m pleased to announce that we’re through to the next round.

Thank you and well done to all who played.

If you’ve been into the club this week, you will have seen that there are requests posted all over for more volunteers to work in the office. Full training will be given. You will not be thrown in at the deep end. PLEASE, our club cannot run without volunteers. We’re not big enough. It is your club, please come forward and offer your help. In order to function and grow, we must all do our bit. The more bodies who help, the better. It is not fair to rely on the same people to keep stepping up. Search your conscience, look at your diaries and see if you can offer a couple of hours.

Thank you.

Now for the not so good bits.

Hugh Hart’s funeral is on Monday 31st October at Gloucester Crematorium at 11.30am and afterwards at the club.

I’d like to give a mention to John Mack who’s out in Spain where his daughter had gone on holiday. She slipped on some steps, fell and hit her head and has been in a coma ever since. I know he reads the newsletter so this is just to say that we’re thinking of you John, and hope that your daughter soon shows signs of improvement.

Yet more sad news.

Monica White, a social member but former very good playing member and wife of Bryan sadly died on Saturday. She had had health issues for a number of years but Bryan had to give up bowling at the end of the summer season since she was becoming more frail and dependent upon him.

Our thoughts are with him and his family at this sad time.

Take care everyone,

Linda.
