Hello everyone,

Wow! Doesn’t our wonderful country do things well! Yesterday, everything was timed, and carried out, to absolute perfection. What a sendoff for a such a loyal and exemplary monarch! King Charles has a hard act to follow but he’s had an excellent example from his very dear mother.

Today is the belated start to our winter season. Let’s make it a good one! There will be lots going on as usual with the addition of our trial week-end opening. We are open on both the first and second week-ends of October. Book a rink and give it a go.

Before we moved to the Cotswolds, four and a half years ago, I used to dread the winter because it meant no bowling. Fortunately that is no longer the case, thanks to MidGlos.

The final results of the league tables for the summer season are as follows:

Monday morning open Triples – Winners – Ark Angels

Runners up – Braves

Tuesday morning open Triples – Winners – Two Easy

Runners up – In Laws

Wednesday morning Australian Pairs – Winners – Wallabies

Runners up- Koalas

Thursday morning open Triples – Winners – In Laws

Runners up – Woodcutters

Well done everyone.

Last Friday Paul Rosam notified the club of the death of Mike Tyrell on the previous Monday. He was a former member of the Wannabees but had suffered ill health for the last few years. He was a good player and regular supporter of the club. Sadly he collapsed in the street while out walking. Our condolences to his wife, Sylvia and family. The funeral arrangements will be announced later.

On Sunday, the club had been hired by a group who were trying out bowling for the first time and therefore needed coaching. Sandy and Howard were doing the coaching but found rink 4 in a disgusting state presumably as a result of either Friday morning’s or evening’s umbrella.

It appeared to have come from someone’s shoes midsoles which were disintegrating. If you played on rink 4 on either of those occasions, could you please check your shoes? There are plenty of shoes to choose from in the bowls cupboard. Please use one of these pairs instead until you can buy a new pair. Howard is not due to play today but has had to come in early to hoover the carpet so that play can go ahead.

It will be lovely to see the old (familiar) faces back this week.

Take care,

Linda.
