Hello again,
A whole day without rain! I can’t believe it! Not only that but the sun has been out, it’s mild and really very pleasant and … I’ve managed to get into the garden for the first time this year to make a start on the big tidy up.
First things first. You will have noticed that the sheets are now up by reception in the hope that all the vacant positions will be filled before the AGM on Wednesday, 22nd April at 7.00 p.m.
As far as the Board is concerned, we need a minimum of three directors and a maximum of seven. May I point out that it is really not possible to run with just three without people ending up with nervous breakdowns! However, if we fail to get as few as three, the sobering thought is that the club would have to close. Hopefully none of us wants that to happen!
The roles to be filled are:
Chairman
Finance
Health and Safety
Bar and catering
Buildings and grounds maintenance
Office Services
Marketing and PR
The other Club Officer roles to be filled are:
President
Club Captain
Vice Captain
Ladies’ Captain
Ladies’ Secretary
Men’s Secretary
Match Secretary
Competitions Secretary
League Co-ordination
Club Coach
Junior Section Leader
Social Secretary
Some of the above positions do have names alongside them which is good news.
Please give it some thought. Could you step up to fill one of these positions?
As ever, I am appealing for volunteers. Some people are having to do more than their fair share due to a distinct lack of new names. Folks are needed on reception and for the bar, please. Training is given for both. If you can spare a couple of hours, please give it a go. Thank you.
I believe that there has been talk on Facebook about the need to hire a Club Manager.
In an ideal world, this would be the way forward but, with the membership that we have at the moment, it is just not possible. We cannot afford it unless we recruit many more members. We need to build membership. We have a great facility but we need more members. As a member, try your best to promote the club, please.
The summer season is fast approaching. Summer captains will be looking for team members.
The red book will be at reception for all existing and any potential new captains to enter your teams for the 2026 summer season.
If you are a captain looking for players or a member looking for a team, enter your name and contact details on the relevant sheet in the foyer.
Geoff Underhill has requested that I put out a plea for more names for his Australian Pairs teams on a Wednesday morning.
This is great practice since you get to play both lead and skip. One word of warning, though. It is double the walking of a usual 14 end game. However, it’s a good way of getting nearer to your step count for the day. Please contact Geoff if you’re interested.
Due to the impending taxes on alcohol, the drinks prices will increase from 1st March
At the time of writing, I haven’t heard the results of the return match at home against Newport. I’ll report next week.
The next friendly is next week on Saturday, 28th February away at Cotswold and on Sunday, 1st March, our men are back in action in the Wessex.
MidGlos A is playing Fairford while
MidGlos B is against Cotswold B.
Good luck to both Wessex teams. The next match will be on 15th March which will be the quarter final. Watch this space to see if our A team makes it into that match!
Last night we had our usual healthy support for the monthly quiz, this time hosted by Jill and Graham Whiting. Since Jill is the main brain in our team, we suffered but it was still an enjoyable evening.
As usual, I hope I’ve covered everything. Take care,
Linda.
Linda Watkin-Jones.
Director (PR & Marketing)
