Newsletter Issue 211

Hello again,
We’re back after a great week away. Our team didn’t quite make it – although we lost in the quarters by one shot, we really shouldn’t have done. However, to reach the quarters out of 100 teams is not too shabby.

During one of our games we managed a hot shot and were presented with our medals on the morning of the finals.

There were a few photos of different ones either fast asleep or “thinking” but I decided that what goes on at Potters stays at Potters. However, there was one funny on the last morning. At breakfast, Roger told us that he couldn’t find his specs before coming to breakfast. It turned out that it was because Gill was wearing them and she hadn’t even noticed that they weren’t hers.

While still on the subject of Potters, a number of people at the club had asked if it would be possible for the shop to visit at a week-end. We have arranged for Jack to come on Sunday, 1st December from 11.00a.m. until 3.00p.m. The club will be busy that day since both the Wessex teams are playing in the morning and there is a friendly against Bristol in the afternoon. Again, it will be open to anyone and it will be in time for Christmas!

So, if you’re thinking of buying any presents bowls related for Christmas, this is a “heads up”. Gift vouchers will also be available. Posters will be up at the club this week.

Top Club is being played at our club against Cotswold this Sunday morning. Come along to support if you can.
It comprises:
Ladies’ two wood singles
Men’s two wood singles
Mixed pairs
Mixed triples
Mixed fours
The players’ names are up on the notice board.

On the ladies’ notice board, there are two sheets to sign if you’re interested in  being considered for these teams.
The Mason’s is played on a Friday morning and is for the over 60s – one rink at home and one away. The first game is on Friday, 25th October.
The Yetton is played on a Saturday morning – two rinks at home and two away. The first game is on Saturday, 19th October.

As a result of our open week-end, we have a large number of folks requiring coaching (32) so two rinks on Friday evenings will be needed for coaching as well as the rinks used for the umbrella. If you’re playing in the umbrella, please make allowances for any wrong biases or lack of etiquette (this will be addressed during their coaching course). Thank you.

In addition, our coaching bowls will be very much in demand. We have a finite number on these. Therefore, if you have any stored in your locker, they MUST BE RETURNED to the bowls cupboard this week, please.

That’s all for this week.
Take care,

Linda.
