Newsletter Issue 197

Hello again,

Not much news to fill a newsletter last week but here we are again.

A week ago, Steve Bluck was our quizmaster under very trying conditions – the microphone system decided to give up the ghost! He still just about had a voice by the end of the evening but those who have difficulty hearing at the best of times were somewhat challenged (or rather the other members of their team having to remember and repeat the question). However, we got through and it was still an enjoyable evening. Jill Whiting is hoping against hope that it can be fixed before her next quiz on 20th July!

Howard and I and Fred Croxton won’t be able to attend since Fred and I belong to different branches of “i-sing choirs” and we are performing in a concert in Bishop’s Cleeve in aid of the charity “Mind”. We were performing yesterday at the Food and Drinks Festival in Montpellier Gardens in Cheltenham. Other than that our week-end has been spent decorating the kitchen (Howard and I not Fred). Don’t want to start rumours!

Whilst on the subject of decorating, Howard has applied the second coat to the “kicker wall” and the first coat on the skirting board beneath. It’s looking very smart. Woe betide anyone who dares to put their feet on the wall again!!

A couple of reminders – the use of “Grippo” or the like is strictly forbidden indoors. We recognise that outdoors it is widely used but it must not be used indoors. The very costly carpet is an entirely different surface from grass where “Grippo” is harmless – not so indoors.

The other reminder is to remember to walk down the MIDDLE of the rink when
changing ends and to keep walking – i.e. do not stop halfway down for a chat. Not only is it annoying for players on neighbouring rinks but you risk being hit by woods in play on the next rink. This, of course, can be either painful and or dangerous.

As of this week, we welcome both a new webmaster and Facebook manager. We thank Steve Knight and Fin Williams for all they’ve done in the past in keeping both members and the wider public informed about MidGlos.

We look forward to a different approach to both sites from our webmaster, Gavin Argent (Steve and Jean Hancock’s son-in-law) and Dave Giles, our Facebook manager. Exciting times.

One week to go to Wimbledon! Must get the decorating finished by then! Everything stops twice a year for me – World Bowls and Wimbledon.

That’s all for now. Take care.

Linda
