Hello everyone,
Did you spot the deliberate error last time? It was beconing. There was also an unintended one in ‘Getting to know you’ (busine). Look out for this issue’s deliberate error.
Now that our outdoor friends have returned the club is buzzing.

BOWLS STUFF
Thursday mornings:
The Thursday morning winter triples league will this season be trialling a playoff system to determine the league champions. On the penultimate week of the season, the fixtures will be adjusted, based on the league positions at the time, so that the team in 1st position will play the team in 4th and 2nd will play 3rd. The following week (the final Thursday of the season), the winners of those two games will play each other to decide the league winners and runners up. Similarly the two losing teams will play off, the winners taking 3rd place and the losers 4th. Games for all the other teams will be amended as necessary.

Please note that the dates for the Winter season Top Club, Egham, Yetton and Mason competitions are up on the men’s and ladies’ noticeboards.
On Saturday 10th October there will be another chance to play in Graham Whiting’s singles draw competition. This is a wonderful event where you can improve your draw ability. There are cash prizes and breakfast baps are available. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Don’t miss it.
Open weekend:
Our big open weekend on 26th/27th September was a great success. Particular thanks to Dave & Liz Giles for organising it but also to all those who turned up to help and support the event. There were a good number who came and tried bowls and liked it enough to sign up for free coaching. They all seemed impressed with the friendly atmosphere. At a rough estimate we may be gaining around 30 new members. Well done everyone!
Carters evening:
On Thursday 17th September we played host to Carters Building & Construction who held a team-building event for 20+ of their employees. Dave & Liz Giles had prepared a mini-bowls event with fun prizes which was followed with a de-luxe buffet. It was a wonderful evening thanks to the many volunteers who turned out to run the bar, prepare the buffet, take photos and be markers for the bowls. Well done everyone and let’s hope this is the first of many such evenings.
BOARD STUFF
Annual Subscriptions
We are looking forward to welcoming you all back to MidGlos for another Autumn/Winter season of bowls, and much, much more. There’s plenty being planned for the new season, so watch this space. Meanwhile, membership renewal is now due. There are no papers to complete. If you use on-line banking you can make a bank transfer (BACS), simply phone the club to confirm how much your subscription payment is and check you have the relevant MidGlos Bank details to make the payment. If you prefer not to make your payment in this way, you can come into reception and pay by credit or debit card, or cash. If you’ve recently moved house, changed your phone number or changed your email address, please let us know, we do like to keep your details up to date. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.
Coffee machine
As many of you will be aware, we have had a number of teething problems with the new machine. We have been assured that these are now fixed. The new machine is the latest version of the other machine so there should be no drop in quality. However, if you encounter any sort of problem, please ensure that you report this to the office so that it can be fixed.
SOCIAL STUFF
Every Wednesday night is now Club night! From 6 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. you can come along for roll-ups or rescheduled matches, beginners’ practice at only £2 per hour. Card games, board games, darts and table tennis are all available and the bar is open so just come along for a chat and a drink.
Cribbage has now moved back to Tuesday evenings starting on 29th September, 7-9 p.m..
The next quiz night is on Saturday, 17th October with Amanda & David Hanks as the quizmasters. Cost is only £6 per person, £7 for non-members including a buffet. Enter on the notice board by reception.
Yoga is held every Wednesday from 12.30 – 1.30p.m. The cost is £10. Please bring your own mat.
Keezen is held on the 2nd Friday of the month with the next being 9th October.
We hold a whist drive run by Rachel at 7p.m. on the first and third Friday evenings. The next is on the 2nd October.
Bingo restarted on Sunday 20th September and the next date is Sunday 25th October. Please bring a raffle prize.

Hi,
For those who don’t know me yet… I’m Cath Black your club captain.
I was born in Tittensor, Stoke on Trent and grew up in a small village called Handsacre (5miles outside of the city of Lichfield). I am the youngest of five children Dad “Benny” and Mum Pat, three sisters and one brother. Dad passed away in 2007.
I attended Hayley Park high school until leaving in 1987. I’ve had varied work placements, greengrocers, cafe, haberdashery, restaurant, pub, working mens club, cleaner at Bass brewery and cook at a golf club.
I moved to Gloucester in February of 2003 and met John in April of 2003. John and I married in February of 2005. We haven’t had it easy but after 21 years together we are settled and own two dogs, Rottweiler Bruce and chihuahua Dobby (YES I am a fan of Harry Potter too).
I used to have really REALLY long hair (all the way down to my bottom) and I had it all cut off and donated it to Cancer/Leukemia/alopecia (for wig making) due to my sister having breast cancer for the second time. (She is still undergoing treatment but is currently doing well and staying positive).
Interesting fact… I don’t own (and never have)… a Passport!
And that’s a brief bio on me!
As the Winter season is fast approaching, our Friendlies are also due to start. First one is Bristol, away Saturday 17th October. Sheets will be displayed on noticeboard opposite Ladies toilets, so keep your eyes peeled. It would be nice to have some new names up. Team selection sheets will go up at least one week prior to matches. Make sure you put your preferred position and tick off your name on selection sheets if you make it into the teams. Any questions please ask. I’m around a fair bit. Happy Bowling everyone!
