BOWLS STUFF
Thursday mornings:
The Thursday morning winter triples league will this season be trialling a playoff system to determine the league champions. On the penultimate week of the season, the fixtures will be adjusted, based on the league positions at the time, so that the team in 1st position will play the team in 4th and 2nd will play 3rd. The following week (the final Thursday of the season), the winners of those two games will play each other to decide the league winners and runners up. Similarly the two losing teams will play off, the winners taking 3rd place and the losers 4th. Games for all the other teams will be amended as necessary.
Dates:
Please note that the dates for the Winter season Top Club, Egham, Yetton and Mason competitions are up on the men’s and ladies’ noticeboards.
Coach needed:
With one of our coaches having moved away, we urgently need a replacement. If you are interested in becoming a coach your training is free as the cost is covered jointly by the club and the EIBA. If you would like to put your name forward please contact our Head coach, Dave Giles or let the office know.
Open weekend:
Our big open weekend is on 26th/27th September from 10-4 each day. If you would like to help please contact Dave Giles or Reception. Or you could just turn up and chat with potential new members. Refreshments will be available.
BOARD STUFF
Annual Subscriptions
We are looking forward to welcoming you all back to MidGlos for another Autumn/Winter season of bowls, and much, much more. There’s plenty being planned for the new season, so watch this space. Meanwhile, membership renewal is now due. There are no papers to complete. If you use on-line banking you can make a bank transfer (BACS), simply phone the club to confirm how much your subscription payment is and check you have the relevant MidGlos Bank details to make the payment. If you prefer not to make your payment in this way, you can come into reception and pay by credit or debit card, or cash. If you’ve recently moved house, changed your phone number or changed your email address, please let us know, we do like to keep your details up to date. We look forward to seeing you all again soon.
Marketing
You may well see members of the club out and about promoting MidGlos over the next few weeks. We will be in some well-known supermarkets around lunchtimes, inviting people to come along to our open weekend on the 26th/27th September. If anyone would like to take some of our new fliers to put in shops, libraries, doctors surgeries, or anywhere else in your local community, please ask at reception for these. There are new marketing materials and you will be able to see these as we will have them in the club from time to time when we’re not out and about with them.
Volunteers
Volunteers are the life blood of our club and we need more! On Tuesday 22nd September we are having a special day when you can come along for roll-ups at only £1 per hour but also find out more about volunteering. You will get a chance to meet other volunteers and find out what is involved and what you might like to help out with. Just come along in the morning or evening to find out more. There will also be a chance to see behind the scenes, parts of the club which you normally wouldn’t see. We hope to see you there.
SOCIAL STUFF
Summer cribbage is on alternate Wednesday mornings from10-12, with the next being on Wednesday 23rd September.
The next quiz night is on Saturday, 19th September with Jill Whiting as the quizmaster. Cost is only £6 per person, £7 for non-members including a buffet. Enter on the notice board by reception.
Yoga is held every Wednesday from 12.30 – 1.30p.m. The cost is £10. Please bring your own mat.
We hold a whist drive run by Rachel at 7p.m. on the first and third Friday evenings. The next is on the 18th September.
Bingo will restart on Sunday 20th September. Please bring a raffle prize.
GETTING TO KNOW YOU

I was born in 1950 in Fallowfield, Manchester…76 in a couple of weeks! When I was eight and a half my family moved to Lymm in Cheshire.
I went to the local Lymm primary school then to Lymm Grammar School…where I first met Linda – now my wife of fifty-two years! After grammar school and A levels I went to Hull Busine College…and after three years passed my final exams with a distinction but also passed A level Law (six month course) and gained my Diploma of the Institute of Marketing.
Then work started…which began at Ideal Standard in their marketing department. I left after two years and joined Proctor & Gamble as a salesman. That developed into an Area Manager and then a National Account Manager looking after the CRS and Kwik Save. During my time at P&G I married Linda…and we have two daughters.
I was then invited to join Adidas UK as the Marketing Services Manager, which I accepted. My work in changing how the UK launched its products and how the salesmen were prepared to sell those products caught the attention of the Adidas International HQ in a small town of Herzogenaurach near Nurenburg in Germany. I accepted their offer of the International Marketing Services Manager and stayed there for nearly three years. During that time I changed the way the international company launched their products, what was said in the breakouts and the sales aid the worldwide sales force took to their customers. After my time in Germany I came back to Adidas UK as Head of Communications.
After ten years at Adidas I left and set my own business up and ran it for just over twenty years. My clients hired me to impact on their launches, what was said and what the sales force took to their customers. Clients included … Adidas USA/international, Reebok, ASICS, Helly Hansen and the medical company Lundbeck.
At sixty-five and a bit I retired…but then Covid changed everything. Linda and my two daughters said whilst I had the time in the Covid lock down why didn’t I write down the stories I told them as children. So I did. However, the story that emerged wasn’t anything like the stories I told them. I now have a publisher and my first two books are out in the marketplace…cheaper on Amazon!

Currently I am writing the third book – the final part of the trilogy.
