Wotcha!
Did you spot the deliberate error last time? It was Socail.
I’ve included another in this issue so keep your eyes peeled.
Let’s go.
Bowls stuff
Layla Avaron has been successful in raising a team for the Fantastic Five’s this year and is playing on Sunday June 14th from 10am until 2pm. However, she does not need all the rinks so please feel free to book a rink for a roll up. Or if you don’t want to bowl, just come along and support your club and watch them play.
On Saturday 27th June we have a Singles draw bowls competition starting at 10 a.m. with 4 bowls per player, 2 forehand, 2 backhand. In addition, the bowler positions a 3 foot wooden barrier between the jack and half way. Scoring is 1 point for within a yard, 3 points within 18 inches and 5 points for a toucher. The entry fee is £4 with prizes for 3rd, 2nd and 1st. Bar and breakfast baps available. Entry form on noticeboard by reception. Volunteers needed please for bar, kitchen and marking.
Our club is living proof that bowls is a sport for all ages. We think that our oldest member is Trevor Hamblin at 95 years old – unless you know different.
Youth Bowls
The youngest member is Jaxson Davies at just 10 years old.
Boring stuff
I’m delighted to announce that having put his name forward, the Board have co-opted David Hanks as our Director for Health & Safety. I’m also very pleased to tell you that a 6th Director is soon to be co-opted leaving just one vacancy.
Our £40,000 windfall is safely in our account accruing interest. A number of people have hoped that we would start spending this right away but in a climate where we are very actively pushing for new members and to increase our revenue and funds, the Board are unanimous in the view that this money is providing much needed support for our initiatives and we are not looking to break into it unless we have to.
Humbug-gate!
Thank you to the vast majority who took this in good spirit. We are aware that a number of members enjoyed the sweets but there were also a number who brought their own and a further group who never ate them at all. You might be surprised to hear that stopping supplying these will save the club almost £1200 per year which will pay for our advert in The Hub magazine for 8 editions.
Social stuff.
Remember that Summer cribbage is now on alternate Wednesday mornings from10-12, with the next two being on Wednesday June 17th then July 1st. This will continue throughout the Summer.
The next quiz night is on Saturday, 20th June with yours truly as the quizmaster. Cost is only £6 per person, £7 for non-members including a buffet! Enter on the notice board by reception.
Yoga is held every Wednesday from 12.30 – 1.30p.m. The cost is £10. Please bring your own mat.
The next session of Bingo will be on Sunday, 28th June, 3-5 p.m. Please bring a raffle prize. There will be a Summer Bingo break so it will restart on 27th September, (not 30th as misreported last time.)
Getting to know you.
My name is Andy Williams born many years (75) ago in Cheltenham and have lived in the area all of my life. I have lived in Hucclecote for the last 40 years.

I retired in 2014, joined Mid Glos around 18 months ago and continue to enjoy the club a great deal although the consistency of my bowls remains dubious!
I was recently elected on to the Board in the position of Director of Finance.
Although I have not held that position directly before, I have had a long and successful career in various positions including Sales Director, General Manager and Managing Director running my own Business in the field of Facial Recognition. This was a world leading project done along side the National Crime Squad and like a lot of my previous positions included a huge amount of international travel and Technical input.
When not making a poor attempt at bowling I am a very keen wildlife enthusiastic wildlife watcher and also a photographer.
Catering volunteers
A number of you put your names forward to help with catering. We have a need for people to
take a turn in cleaning out the existing machine plus the new one when we acquire it. Will those of you who are prepared to do this please let Kath know. Many thanks.

Nature notes
Can you identify this which was found in the grounds of the club?
All will be revealed next time.

Any suggestions?
I have been dilligently checking he suggestion box but it remains empty. Obviously you feel that we are doing a brilliant job and your input isn’t required. Or maybe you haven’t got around to it yet. It’s a great way to contribute to the club and its progress. Obviously we can’t promise to take up your suggestion but we can promise that any suggestions received via the box (by the coffee machine) will be considered at a board meeting.
A mystery to solve.
Do you use locker 35 or know who does? Yvonne has been doing a brilliant job of checking through the unused lockers and according to our records, nobody has been allocated locker 35. She was therefore surprised to discover that it contained two sets of woods, two measures, a pair of size 9 bowling shoes, a blue scorecard holder and sundry other items. If you can solve the mystery please tell Kath or drop me a line.

Punny Ending

I was in a posh restaurant recently and ordered the roast pelican. It was quite nice but the bill was enormous!
