Hello again,
WOW! Have we got something to shout about! Fin Williamson has qualified to play in the World Pairs at Potters this January with Ryan Whitlock from Torquay. We’ll all be watching, Fin! Hope you smash it. Get plenty of practice in on the portable rink – I believe it’s quite tricky.
On a smaller scale, MidGlos came out on top of Top Club at home to Banbury this morning. We won 14/2. The two wood singles carry 2 points while the Mixed Pairs, Mixed Trips and Mixed Fours each carry 4 points. Thank you to the spectators who turned up.
The next round is in two weeks’ time away to Carterton, which has only two rinks, so it’ll be a long day as we’ll have to play in stages.
Whilst on the subject of competitions, the club competition entry sheets are available in a folder pinned on the club competitions notice board.

Tony Letts has asked me to remind you that the “umbrella” session on Monday afternoons (1.30 – 3.30) is open to all. If you fancy a game or need a little help, just turn up by 1.15, booking is not necessary since Tony already has rinks booked out. The session is of a very mixed standard, but it is really good for both newcomers and ‘improvers’. Playing with or against better players is a valuable learning experience.
Cribbage last Tuesday evening was very well attended and enjoyed by all. Don’t worry if you’re a little rusty – help is on hand. Amanda would like to thank Vince Wilks for his invaluable help (apparently, his computer skills made the evening run smoothly). If you’d like to join in, come along this week. It will take place every Tuesday evening at 7.00 p.m. Try to arrive by 6.50 at the latest.
Keezan runs once a month on a Friday evening. The next session is on 14th November, followed by the last this year on 12th December.
Whist is played on the first and third Friday evenings of the month. The next one is this Friday, 17th October, followed by 7th and 21st November and 5th and 19th December.
Both Keezan and Whist welcome new members.
At the reception, there is a box with a slot in it for all franked stamps, irrespective of country of origin. Charities welcome them. Tickets are now on sale at reception for “The Cherry Reds”, a musical duo with a very good reputation. Buy yours soon to avoid disappointment.

Don’t forget the Table Top Sale this Saturday morning 9.30 to 12.30. There is a very good selection of tables booked at £5.00 a table for members and £10.00 for non-members.
And then, in the evening, it’s the monthly quiz run by Amanda and David Hanks this time.
At the time of writing, I don’t know the outcome of the U18 England trials going on at Northampton today. Erin and Hattie Burke, Josh and Louie Hodges, Jack Speller, and Dylan Williamson were all trying to qualify. Apologies if I’ve omitted anyone, but those were the only names I heard.
Until next week, take care,
Linda.
