Hello again,

I’ll start with the sad news. Alan Baines died last Monday after a long illness. He played for as long as he could, but eventually had to give in to his cruel illness. He was a very gentle man who faced his illness stoically. Our thoughts go out to Jean and his family and friends.

Just two weeks to go now until we welcome back our bowlers who bowl outside in the summer. At least we’ve had a summer this year, so not too many games when you’ve had to get kitted out in your waterproofs, thankfully. Personally, I’m counting down the days when we’ll be back together again.

Of course, our friendlies begin again too. I’ve noticed that, already there are two sheets up with some signatures on so, don’t hang about or you’ll miss the boat! The friendly games are a great way of gaining experience of match play and playing on different carpets. Just as each of our rinks varies so does the speed and line of different carpets in other clubs.

It is our next monthly quiz this coming Saturday (20th). These events are very popular so, if you’ve missed the opportunity to attend this one, make sure that you get your name down for the next one. As stated before, non-members will be subject to a £1.00 increase on the entry fee from the next quiz onwards. This is in line with our new season. The alternative is to become a social member (soon we will have a social calendar of more events coming up).

The following amused me, particularly as my very first car was a Morris Minor which my parents bought for me for £45.00 and, three years later, we sold for £50.00.

Take care,
