Hello,
First of all, my apologies to Dave Wiggall ( I spelled his name incorrectly in the last newsletter).
There isn’t a lot to report this week but here goes:
As stated in a previous letter, the afternoon leagues were looking very sparse. Thankfully, the Monday and Tuesday leagues are now viable. Friday afternoon could be saved if we were to get two more teams signed up. Steve Bluck had said that the closing date for registration was today, 24th August but he will bend the rules if it means that we can save a league.
If you would like to put in a team on a Friday afternoon, please give it some thought. We’d prefer not to lose the revenue, obviously.
We had a board meeting on Friday afternoon, part of which Amanda Hanks, our social secretary, was invited to attend. Together, we came up with several ideas. As soon as they’re firmed up, I’ll announce them here. In addition, a sheet will be put up on the notice board in place of the awards night photos. We are asking for your suggestions of any social activities you would like to see offered.
The success of any social event relies on members committing their support. The more success we have, the more pennies to add to the coffers. Our quiz nights are hugely popular. We’d like to echo their appeal with other social events.
You will have noticed that we have a surfeit of the old heavy armchairs. They are now on offer at £5.00 o.n.o. If you know of anyone or any club which could be interested, please let them know.
Some people have been asking about the Potters shop visiting the club again. We have been in touch with the lady who deals with this at Potters. As soon as the guy who drives around the country taking the Potters shop to bowls clubs is back from his holidays, she will be able to check the status of his diary with him. He usually comes some time near to Christmas. Ideally, this is the time we’d like him to visit us.
There will be a newsletter next week but it will be on the website only since Kath is taking a well-deserved holiday in Beer, Devon. She needs a break after all the additional work she’s done over the last few weeks (the renewal sheets don’t just happen and she is responsible for cajoling folks into re-registering teams on Monday and Tuesday afternoons. Before she goes away she’s hoping to have a go at saving Friday afternoons too).
Fingers crossed that she’s successful.
Take care everyone,
Linda.
Linda Watkin-Jones.
