Hello, we’re back from our few days away in Pembrokeshire. Some of the “news” may be a bit late since it would have been in last Monday’s newsletter had there been one.
However, going back to 22nd July, nine skittlers came for a taster session. They enjoyed it so much that they are coming back this Tuesday evening but this time for a coaching session in three groups of three.
One young lady just came along to watch but decided in the end that she’d give it a go. After a couple of ends, she announced that she preferred it to skittles and was better at it.
They all took to it really well and, after a couple of ends of entering the end gutter at some speed, they adjusted well to the weight and lines. They were very impressed with the club as a whole and, like many locals, didn’t know of its existence. Fingers crossed for some new members.
For those who’ve been at the club over the last week, this will be old news but, after several months of growing her hair, Cath Black has had it cut for a really good cause.

Hey there! I’m reaching out about a heartfelt cause close to my heart—I’m donating my hair to help cancer patients, especially my sister Jo, who is fighting a tough battle against breast cancer while raising her three kids. Your support would mean the world and can truly make a difference for Jo and her family during this challenging time, so please consider clicking the link below to donate or share it with others. Thank you for being there! https://gofund.me/0c18ce81
Kind regards
Cath
If you pledged an amount, Cath would be grateful if you could now pay (I’ve paid up). Well done, Cath for sticking with it. Towards the end, it was becoming a bit of a nuisance particularly at night – she was having to plait it to avoid being strangled in bed or avoid strangling John (maybe some days she considered it, though!) only joking, John.
I think, speaking as a woman, apart from the cancer and operation, of course, losing your hair must be so difficult to accept. Having a wig made out of real hair would be such a boost to a patient.
I have complimented our young members who play outside in the summer before but both the girls and the boys are doing really well. Some of them have reached Leamington – a praiseworthy achievement. So looking forward to welcoming them back indoors along with all our other members who leave us to bowl outside in the summer.
Fin was playing his next stage in the men’s EIBA singles competition a week last Friday evening. He was up against an older man from Bromsgrove and, when we entered the club, Fin was 5/3 down. The game finished with Fin winning 21/7 – a very impressive comeback! How I relish the thought of having to play him in the Champion of Champions again this September – not! Maybe he’ll have a bad day?
On Thursday, there was a Bowls Committee meeting where I believe it was decided that the trial of two sets play tested in the summer should be extended to both Monday mornings and evenings in the winter season. There was a mixed response to the trial with the majority stating that they didn’t mind either way. Personally, I wasn’t in that camp but the majority must prevail.
Very soon the membership renewal packs will be available. We look forward to welcoming everyone back and new members particularly. Don’t forget to look on the notice board if you’re looking for a team or if you’re a captain struggling to make up numbers in your team.
Also, remember that, if it’s a name you don’t recognise because they’re new, we all had to start somewhere. They just may turn out to be a champion and a real asset to your team.
I think that’s all for now.
Take care, everyone,
Linda.
