Newsletter Issue 221

Hello again,

It has now been confirmed that refreshments after Bob Read’s funeral will be held at Lonsdale Road Methodist Church. Everyone is welcome.

The Christmas quiz was well-supported as usual and fun. Great atmosphere of cheery Christmas jumpers and twinkly lights.

The area semi-final of the Egham was played this morning against Solihull. To begin with, it was a “tit for tat” game but, in the end, we came second. However, I don’t know about the status of all of the men, but five of the ladies were international and/or national champions (two of whom were on our rink).

Speaking of our rink only, over 22 ends, the score was 24/14 which is pretty good considering the male players were Tom and Dan Holmes!

Well done to everyone who took part in the competition. We did well to reach the area semi-final. Maybe we’ll get to the final and beyond next year? Who knows? I for one enjoyed the run.

I believe huge congratulations are in order for Fin who is to captain the U18s national England team from January 2025. Well done, Fin who is now 18 as of yesterday!

All is quiet now as far as the “big” games are concerned until after Christmas. On Friday, 3rd January, the ladies are playing Oxford City and County and, on Saturday, 4th January, the men are playing the area final of the Denny Cup against Kingsthorpe, Northampton. Two good matches to watch. Thank you to those supporting today. It’s always nice to see some encouraging faces.

On Friday evening, 10th January 2025, a new social pastime will begin. It’s a Dutch board game called “Keezan” or “Keezbord”. It is played in teams of four and more information will follow. The start time is 6.45 pm for 7.00 pm start.

This coming Friday evening will be the last umbrella before Christmas. Christmas jumpers are essential! If not, please donate to our carpet fund.

On that note, I will wish you all a very happy Christmas and a healthy New Year. The next newsletter will be next year unless anything vital comes up.

Take care,

Linda.
