Hello again,
Well done to Fin last week for winning a nice amount of money in the Open Singles Circuit. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be this week as he was knocked out this morning (Sunday). However, the last I heard, Lee, his Dad was still in it and about to play his third game. Let’s hope he was successful.
Sadly, after this morning, we are out of the Wessex. We were beaten by Welford who, last week beat Dolphin, the current holders of the title. We did really well to reach the quarter finals. Well done to all who contributed. Maybe next year, we can go further still. 🤞
The finals of both the ladies’ and the men’s interclubs were played on Saturday.
MidGlos ladies beat Barnwood ladies by just one shot – a really close nail biting finish – all down to the last wood!
Caer Glow and Cheltenham Town ladies were playing for third and fourth place with Caer Glow coming out on top.
In the afternoon, the men were in action. MidGlos beat Cheltenham Town.
Apologies to Cheltenham as no team photo was taken.
Barnwood and Cheltenham Spa we’re playing for third and fourth place with Barnwood coming out on top.
Well done to everyone who took part in the competition. Everybody who played in any of the matches contributed to the final scores. Thank you for supporting this competition.
The Ladies’ Section meeting was held on Tuesday at 12.45p.m. Although notices advertising it were dotted around the club and it was advertised in the newsletter, not many ladies turned up. Thank you to those who did. It was decided that we would put in one team in both the Yetton and the Mason Competition.
Both competitions are for ladies only. The Yetton needs two rinks at home and two away – i.e. eight ladies at home and eight away.
The Mason is for ladies aged over sixty – one rink at home and one away.
Lists go up on the Ladies’ Competition board several weeks before the rounds begin. This is not a closed shop. If you would like to be considered, please add your name and the selection committee will meet to discuss the final placing of players.
We would like to enter the Egham and the Top Club as well but we need volunteers to run these comps and commitment from the men that they would be prepared to join us. The Egham is a mixed comp of two ladies and two men per rink – two rinks at home and two away on Sundays.
Top Club is also played on Sundays and requires players for five rinks comprising:
Men’s two wood singles
Ladies’ two wood singles
Mixed pairs
Mixed trips
Mixed fours
All five rinks are played at one designated club.
Entries to all of these competitions have to be made by a date in April this year so there’s not a lot of time left to reach a decision. Interested parties should get their heads together soon so that we don’t miss the closing date for entries.
Quick update on the ongoing work in the overflow car park. Our wonderful helpers – Layla, Rachel and Dave have now removed the brambles, so it’s just a few piles of leaves to go and then the area will be spotless!
Saturday evening’s quiz was again very well supported. It was lovely to see former quizmaster, Norman and Sheila Hancock with Norman looking so much better.
Our next quiz is on 20th April when we will welcome a new quizmaster, Steve Sully.
In the meantime, don’t forget to play your competitions by the “play by” date.
The end of the season is fast approaching. Very sad. I hate it when lots of our friends disappear for a few months to play outside.
