Newsletter Issue 181

Hello again,

I’ve just returned home from walking Molly and I’m delighted to announce that we saw our first six lambs of the season in a field in the village. What a lovely sight!

More good news! Our Wessex A team beat Cotswold A this afternoon. One home rink won while both away rinks won meaning that we came out overall with a healthy win which qualifies us for the play off on 10th March. Really well done guys. Here’s hoping that you go even further.

Not such good news for the ladies in the Tony Allcock match on Saturday against the men. I’m afraid we were trounced! Mind you, they had a lot of luck! Seriously, they played very well. Look after that trophy because you won’t be holding it for long!

Next Saturday is the third round of the men’s and ladies’ interclub matches. The men are playing at 10.00 while the ladies follow at 13.00.

The final day games will be played over 16 ends in whites. Both finals will be played at 10.00 on 16th March. We will be playing for 1st and 2nd in the league and 3rd and 4th in the league.

As was pointed out in a comment on last week’s newsletter – Steve Bluck will be hosting the March quiz on 16th and Steve Sully will be making his debut in April on 20th.

A repeat of the Future of the Club presentation went ahead on Friday at 12.30. Thank you to all who attended (both presentations). Don’t forget to fill in your comments sheets and return them to reception.

You were made aware of the need for volunteers in several areas. In order to make this more specific, we will be drawing up a list of the areas and the numbers required. Please come forward to help.

You will be aware that a new computer system was installed last week on 14th. If you haven’t already done so, please hand in your old card and pick up your new one. At the moment our cards are not linked to the door-opening system but this will be rectified shortly.

Currently, we have nine teams entered for Monday mornings in the summer and seven for Thursday mornings. We need more. If you can gather together a team and are willing to enter it, any current captain would be happy to show you the ropes.

In addition, last year we ran an Australian Pairs league on Wednesday mornings. We’d like to do it again but in a different way. This time you would choose your own team (a team of four). Two captains have already entered their proposed team in the red book. This really is a fun league and excellent practice. Go on, give it a go.

It is Cheltenham Spa’s centenary year this year when they will be running the following competition. If you’re interested, please get in touch with relevant people.

As you know, we go to Potters to play in the mid-week tournament this time of year and in October. We are off next week. The tournament runs from 26th February to 1st March but Howard and I are going down on Sunday and staying B&B in Bungay in Suffolk before travelling on to Potters in the morning. I’ll try to do the newsletter before we go.

Take care,

Linda
